I was looking for a book to get me started in XML. I wasn't interested in Web Services or anything like that, I just wanted to learn how to read through and do some clever things with XML.This book really helped me a lot. This should be the starting place for all .NET programmers wanted to begin XML. I appreciate the book it has helped me tremendously.

This is the best dot net 2.0 XML book around. The content is clear and objective, covering every XML class that you can use in an application.But if you need to use XML, and framework 3.0 is not a problem, try looking for a LINQ for XML Book: faster, easier and much more simple!And remember: LINQ for XML is the best LINQ part ever! The other LINQ classes are not so amazing like those ones.

This book has a number of flaws, but it's still a useful book for learning about using XML in the .NET world.There are a number of weakness in the book in that it's rather shallow and leaves out details or concerns on a number of topics. Examples include skimming over a DataSet's ability to infer a schema when reading data in. Are there any drawbacks? When would you use this? When might you want to avoid it?So with the negatives out of the way, let me focus on the positives, because they're definitely there. There's a lot of content on a broad range of topics. There's a very solid introduction to XML which is soundly and concisely written. The discussion of SAX and DOM is nicely done, and there are a large number of fundamentals which are well-written.You'll be able to learn the basics on things like XML's use of DTDs, how schemas roll into things, the basics of validation, and a number of other topics. The chapter on XML in ADO.NET has some good coverage on XML support in DataSets, and there are solid chapters on Web Services, SQL Server support, and a chapter which combines remoting, XML in ASP.NET, and configuration files. Joshi also wraps in a chapter on XML's role in WCF.I think the book's a solid introduction to XML in the .NET world.

Book is extremly poorly written and covers just a little more than MSDN documentation.The entire book is copy-pasted template paragraphs of the following format:- 2-3 lines of code- a paragraph of 5-10 lines explaining what it does, almost always following the same template:"The code creates a class named Employee with five public properties: EmployeeID, FirstNmae, LastName, HomePhone and Notes... " page 284"The code creates an instance of the proxy class... The code then binds..." 287"The code creates a form-level var... The code then creates..." 288"The code creates an instance ... It then sets..." 289...and so on the entire book.Imagine someone commenting every line of code he's written. EVERY line. And using the same copy-pasted phrase for that.For example:page 283 contains a simple class Employee with 5 simple properties (name, id etc.) Nothing more. That simpliest straight-forward code is spread over 2(!) pages (seriously, I can send you a scan of the page if you like, huge empty space in between the code lines), with a paragraph before the code and after, explaining what is inside this class.

Really enjoying this little book, very interesting, keeps my mind off other things. It's always interesting to see the different elements of buildings, the many styles, and various periods. Looking at the features of different buildings is like free art!

INCREDIBLE. In this pocket sized little book is everything on Western Architecture from Classical to modern times. It's a fun detailed read that provides alot of great resources without all the excess in depth and detail. it's also full of amazing pictures.

I ADORE this sturdy little manual. I can't get enough of it! It is concisely packed with scholarly information. After hours and hours of study as an Interior Design and Art History major, I love being able to sit down with a concise compendium of easy to reference, erudite information on architectural types and styles, from vaults to pilasters. It is not overly verbose (as are most texts on the subject), which works for my learning style.Information is separated into quick sections with small reproductions of period etchings, which are viewable in such fine detail that you may even occasionally want to whip out your pocket magnifying glass. I mean, it's all here. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, carry it with you, and ENJOY the heck out of it! Do I sound happy? OH YEAH!! Great purchase! More please.

Very useful little book.

Clear illustrations and well-written explanations. It's thorough and talks about the different styles of architecture, which is what I was looking for.

I don't know if its just me or that I'm getting old, but I can barely see the beautiful illustrations that the book have.I think the author have a good idea, the idea that you can "read" a building if you have the correct vocabulary. I think its not that easy, there's a lot of variables involved. Its not just a languaje, its a discipline, and its not universal. I think architecture is history's testimony, and not just a form of expression.Anyway, beyond what I think, if architecture is a languaje, maybe this book is the right syllabus.

This is a great book and needs to be read by anyone who wants to be educated about the fascinating history of architecture. I love this book!

About the Author

Michael A. Singer is the author of the New York Times bestseller, The Untethered Soul, which has also been published in Turkey, Brazil (in Portuguese), Switzerland (in German), Spain, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Poland, and Italy. I give the first 37 pages a five star review. Michael Singer gives a wonderful​ example of how you are lost in a dream-like state. You are at the mercy of every thought that arises in your mind and you have no idea of what's happening. He wonderfully shines a light on the process that is happening to you and if you are paying attention, you could discover one of the most important ideas you could ever learn; you are not your thoughts. The first 37 pages are worth the price of admission and I have added this book to my personal lending library.Unfortunately, everything after that is similar to explaining what a shadow looks like to a blind person. He will tell you about some pretty amazing stuff but he won't tell you how to get there. You should buy his book, it will give you one of the best explanations as to why you should meditate, but it won't tell you how to meditate or attain it's benefits.I would recommend reading Mindfulness in plain English after reading this book. It will give you basic instructions on what to do next. As a warning though, it has some brief supernatural references, please just ignore them if they offend you, it really does contain a great instruction on how to meditate and loose the bonds that shackle you to anger, anxiety, depression and whatever else you are suffering from. Best of all.....You will do it by yourself.

As other one star reviewers have noted, the book is disorganized, full of empty phrases, and lacking in any fundamental actions that a reader might take to achieve the bliss promised herein. Some pearls of wisdom: “It is actually possible to never have another problem for the rest of your life.” “Any time you’re having trouble with something, think of death.” “How you learn to stay open is up to you. The ultimate trick is to not close. If you don’t close, you will have learned to stay open.“ “For there to be manifest creation, energy must get in the dynamic of cycling around itself to create a stable unit.” I suspect that the overwhelming positive reviews of the book are influenced by adherents to the author’s philosophy and beliefs. To be clear: I’m not criticizing those beliefs, just the book.

I read the audio version of this book multiple times, bought copies of it for clients, and shared it with friends. Never have I read a book that so radically transformed the way I think. It was remarkably freeing to become so aware of how much I allowed my own thoughts to run my life. After reading Michael's book, I simply allowed irrelevant, erroneous, totally made up thoughts to just float on by without attaching my emotions to them. THAT was freeing!Most human beings are completely unaware that most of the thoughts in our mind are complete untrue. YET, we believe them, follow them, become emotionally entangled in them, allow them to change our mood, allow them to change our behavior.This book was also freeing in the sense that I let go of needing others to behave in a certain way in order for me to be OK. The reason I was't OK had nothing to do with anyone outside myself. It was a miraculous shift within me (to say the very least), when I realized I was trying to manipulate outside circumstances for me to feel OK in life.When I realized the shift needed to be made within ME for me to be OK in life, total game changer! I let everyone off the hook and stepped into unconditional peace and unconditional joy! Have you ANY idea what life is like when your own peace/joy is totally UNCONDITIONAL? It means you don't need anyone to change or be different for you to be happy. It means no-one outside yourself controls how you FEEL. It means you're no longer an emotional puppet on the string of everyone else's behavior, attitudes, decisions, choices, etc. YOU feel inner joy/peace no matter what. Hello?! Total game changer!I LOVED the audio version of the book because the person who read it was perfect for the content. Not to mention the ability to hit replay a million times on the parts that were SO transformative.This was a unique book. I've read TONS of other books on similar topics but the way Michael conveyed the material was unique and different and I really GOT IT! Thank you Michael Singer for the growth, expansion, and transformations you inspired within my very soul. When you approach your walls, you will feel insecurity and fear, but if you stay in the witness position these tensions will pass through you. But then Singer becomes dogmatic: "At all times remain conscious in the face of pain; Don't allow events to leave residue inside of you; you must decide if you want to be happy and commit to being happy ALL the time because God doesn't want to be around people who are miserable. (?) Fortunately in the last chapter he corrects this egregious, error saying God is non judging and sees only beauty in us. I would hypothesize that God loves us in spite of our shortcomings.

It provides teens with a variety of options and suggestions on a plethora of topics, rather than trying to point teens in a specific direction. I feel that the book also helps give the reader a broader perspective on sexuality and relationships. The personal examples from the authors truly make the book come to life. They show the reader that everybody is human, and we all go through some tough times, but with the right attitude, and a proper approach, people will pull through.Sorry for getting a little philosophical there, I just wanted to share some of what makes this book so great. I have bought a couple of copies to give to friends who are going through a process of self-discovery. I would highly recommend this book to any teen, or the parent of any teen who is questioning their sexuality, or is out and not sure where to go from there.

I really like this book to use with teenagers who are questioning their sexual identity. It's written in language that is very teen friendly and non-threatening. Addresses a lot of questions that my clients had. Recommend! My clients liked it so much they went to check it out at the local library after reading my copy.

Bought this because my daughter requested it. She’s 14 and recently told us she is Bi-sexual. She wanted something to help her along her journey and said this book did just that. So thank you for writing something kids can turn to when they don’t want the advice of adults.
