The idea of the book is great, which is why I leaped to purchase! However, three out three moms I know who have purchased this book have had pieces come off within the first day of owning. If you're hoping to use it for adults for some reason, it would be great. If you're going to have it around children, I would pass.
Bought as a gift for friends with a baby on the way. Our little one learned baby sign (without this book) and was easily one of the best choices we made. She knew how to sign to communicate with us (comprehension and expression develops earlier than verbal communication), which prevented her from feeling frustrated when she was hungry (milk, eat, more), no longer hungry (finished/all-done), needs changed (help), wanted a bath, etc.
As a Deaf Mom and an ASL teacher, I was intrigued by baby sign books but didn’t find any of them particularly useful, especially if used by family members who do not know sign. This baby sign book is particularly innovative in that it shows the movement of the sign and the specific handshape. I’m more than pleased with my purchase, and I have already recommended this book to several friends and family!
This is a unique, entertaining, informative book that is beautifully designed. It has been--and remains--a favorite of my now 2-year-old granddaughter since she was about a year old. She still loves to use the signs that the book (and her mother:) taught her. I've ordered a second book because, unfortunately, the little hands that make the signs do eventually tear if you let your child's little hands do the pulling on the tabs.
Although my baby, and now a young toddler, likes it, this book is not for small kids. My daughter ended up ripping the pop-out hands out of the book. It was very difficult to stop her while reading the book. Also, she didn't learn any signs from this book. So who is this book for? There are too few signs in it for an older child.
The help tab ripped off the first time I looked at it, I actually think I should get a refund or replacement.
I adore this book! So cute to have moveable hands, I've never seen such an innovative pop-up book! I'm not sure how helpful it is for my 1-year-old to learn sign language, she just ripped off the thumb for "milk" :'( It has helped me learn a couple new signs, though, and would be great for teaching older siblings signs to use with babies.
Nice book, but falls apart incredibly fast! Not even at the fault of my child. Simply using the book as directed causes it to fall apart! I want a refund!
