Purchased for college as a required reading book. as it turns out I really enjoy the commentary and would recommend this book to anyone.

It’s a very good book it a person wishes to study more than just the verses it gives clarity to time period and what’s going on around the events and what reasons God led the prophets to do what was needed to be done

Very informative. It’s has become a great reference book for me.

This book is not light reading. It is a serious study of the Old Testament Prophets their time and their work. It is a great resource when working your way through any study of the books written by the prophets. It give you insight to general time frame of prophecies, the context into which the prophecies were written, and the subsequent fulfillment of those prophecies.

I order a used copy. It arrived quickly and was in very good condition. I am finding it very helpful in preparing for my class. Happy that I purchased it and recommend it to anyone wanting to understand the Prophets. The book gives many good details that make the study interesting.

An excellent read. Lots of information, very scholarly written.

I appreciate Chisolm's commitment to the Biblical text, and to the grammatical-historical setting. I have used the book primarily in connection with teaching through Isaiah. I also use Chisolm's "From Exegesis to Exposition" to help with grammatical matters.

I love Chisholm. The way that he presents both sides of Biblical academic thought is a breath of fresh air! He explains the extremes and then discusses them in an intellectual manner. One of my favorite college books!

As someone who never did organized gymnastics in my youth I'm finding the joy of body weight fitness later in life... I've been messing around with handstands and other more difficult yoga holds. After plateauing and not finding a way around my lack of consistency in handstand (after several months of consistent practice) I decided to add some strength/gymnastic type exercises to my workouts.This initially consisted with a lot internet reading, youtube watching and self practice, while I did improve I feel like I could do better. So I set out to find a book (or program) that breaks down gymnastics training progressions. The first edition of the book sounded good, but disorganized - after a little research I found that the second edition was only a few weeks away from release. I so decided to wait and get this book as soon as released. What can I say other than wow... I had NO CLUE how much I didn't know when it came to the subject of body weight training/skills progression. The amount of information in detail, the coverage of all topics relating to the subject.. just wow - this book is worth every penny of the $50 I paid.The best part is that not only does the book expertly cover topics of gymnastic progression, but also programming workouts to reach a progression goal, injury awareness/avoidance/rehabilitation, and so much more.The author is the real deal. This is a guy who did gymnastics a college level and went on to get his PhD in Physical Therapy. He clearly has a deep passion and understanding for the topics covered and I'm really impressed with what he put together. I've also visited his reddit sub and while I've never personally asked him a question, the author is in there answering questions all the time - if you're considering learning more about body weight fitness and or gymnastics progression look no further, this is the book.

This book has been nothing short of life-changing for me. After a few months of diligent practice, I am stronger, leaner, and more flexible than I have ever been in my entire life. I have dropped over 25 lbs and have put on a considerable amount of muscle. For the first time in my life I have a six pack, which I did not have even doing a P90X/Insanity hybrid, but that's not the best part. The strength gains that I have made are nothing short of phenomenal. I have increased my big 3 lifts by over 50 lbs, without even working on them! I am able to do single leg squats, handstands, L-sit ring muscle-ups, single-arm push-ups, straddle back lever, tuck planche, and even the elbow lever, as pictured on the cover. I could not do anything close to this before I bought this book. However, the progressions outlined in the book for these exercises are by far the hardest thing that I have ever done physically. It does not compare to any off-the-shelf program in terms of shear difficulty, so be prepared to fail, alot. The author does, however, teach you the necessary concepts of how to tailor your program specifically for your goals and abilities, which will enable you to progress, without injury, much faster and achieve far greater results than anything you can buy from an infomercial. Although, it does require a bit more work on the user's end in terms of programming and assessment. Short of finding an actual coach, this book delivers in way that I hitherto simply would not have believed possible. PS: I would recommend buying an ab wheel, rings, parallettes, pull-up bar, dip bar, and a 20 ft rope. These are the tools I am using in my progressions, in addition to barbells for certain exercises, i.e. push press to develop strength for the handstand. I wouldn't say that all this equipment is absolutely necessary, but it is a tremendous asset. If you're on a budget, I'd say just buy, or make, some rings. Rings are mandatory IMO.UPDATE: After 9 months of gymnastics training, I have lost about 60 lbs total, going from 237 lbs down to 177 lbs, and going from 24% body fat down to 11%. I am currently working on the inverted muscle up aka "elevator" as well as the iron cross, and I am very close to achieving both. Aside from hurting my leg due to falling off my p-bars, I have not sustained any injuries and all of the programming and progression advice in the book has paid off tremendously. Of course I have been training between 1-5 hours per day, 6-7 days per week, and using a very strict diet/sleep schedule, so my results may not be typical for most. My life has been completely changed and I can only imagine what another 9 months of training will bring.

This juggernaut of a book (just look at the number of pages) is the best bodyweight book I've come across. I waited for it to come out after hearing there was going to be a second edition. I wasn't disappointed. The author seriously put a lot of energy in this book. It is accessible (with some concentration), technical, and thorough.I got this book because I wanted to understand bodyweight exercises at a deeper level and be able to integrate them into my workout routine. This book gave me the tools to do that. If you are obsessively methodical like I am, this is a good book.Personally, I also like to integrate freeweights for some workout components (particularly legs). If this is you too, then I would seriously recommend two books in addition to this one:Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training, 3rd editionPractical Programming for Strength Training

Absolutely phenomenal book, it has been the basis of my strength training for almost the past two years, and I've seen incredible results. The book lists realistic progression techniques, exercises, and periodization methods for beginner to advanced athletes. While it's focused towards bodyweight athletes, I would recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about the methodology and systematic approaches they can apply to their strength training.

I understand this, but I don’t want him to be sad.So, this review is my open letter to our Travis, a man who 3500 people (along with me) have friended on Facebook because of his inimitable, quirky, passionate novels. TJ is young enough to be my son, but more talented a fiction writer than I’ll ever hope to be. I admire him deeply, both his skill and his courage. He has made the brave choice to write as a gay man for those who want to read about gay men and about love. He has found his audience. I have loved all of this books.Travis, be proud of “Crisped and Sere” and its companion. They are splendid. They are also dark and ugly and fierce. They are not what your vast circle of fans expects from you – all those folks who embrace your complex visions of flawed humanity and gay romance. Yes, you’ve hinted at darker things in “Into this River I Drown,” and even in your werewolf romance, “Wolfsong;” but in “Crisped and Sere” you go really deep. You have plumbed the depths of your darkest places, and you have brought up a dystopian world as grisly and harsh as any I’ve ever experienced. These books were not fun for me to read; but I never once was bored. I never once ceased admiring your masterful prose or your austere, intensely vivid characters.The narrative in “Crisped and Sere” is relentless, exhausting, even moreso for the fact that there are moments of almost lyrical gentleness that stand in jarring contrast to the gruesome violence at the core of Cavalo’s story. The sense of place is both bleak and claustrophobic; a post-apocalyptic wilderness just a little more than a century into our own future. Cavalo is a broken man, a loner, whose tortured mind reveals itself bit by bit as he finds a destiny he never sought forced on him by others more afraid and desperate than he is.His counterpoint is Lucas, mute refugee from a cult of savage radiation-damaged nomads, whose own madness hovers as near the surface as Cavalo’s does, but for reasons that defy reason. The volatile, edgy relationship established between Cavalo and Lucas in the first book expands here, tapping into emotional resources neither man thought had survived the horrors of their individual lives. It becomes the nuclear core of the narrative, pulsing with a dangerous heat, always on the verge of cataclysm. Klune manages to avoid most of the accepted clichés of romance, while creating one of the most intensely counterintuitive couples ever put to the written page. As one character wryly comments during a rare quiet moment:“It’s disconcerting to think that potentially the fate of our known world rests in the hands of two people who can’t stop growling at each other like animals.”One of greatest miracles in this book is Bad Dog, a character that offers glimmers of the silliness for which Klune is known. Somehow, with a limited (possibly imaginary) vocabulary and the basic simplicity of a family pet, Bad Dog becomes a note of light in an ocean of darkness. He is a post-apocalyptic Lassie, and Toto, too. He is sidekick and muse, and his non-human soul keeps Cavalo rooted in his own fragile humanity.SIRS, the C-3PO-like robot who runs the abandoned Idaho prison that Cavalo and Bad Dog call home, is another brilliant balancing act. In a story that is all about lost humanity, SIRS becomes both assistant and savior, offering wisdom and wry comic relief in situations of increasing despair. He brings forth the old science-fiction trope of the robot with a soul, but does it in a way that transforms him into a character as powerful and affecting as any of the actual humans.“I have a heart that beats. And Cavalo, I swear it beats because of you. It beats for you.”It is not an accident that it is this trio – the monster, the machine, and the dog – who save Cavalo from his darkest self. They are the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly lion to Cavalo’s Dorothy. Only this is a very ugly OZ, liberally splashed with blood and battle. In the end, however, Cavalo pushes aside his own monster to help people as lost and alone as he is:“My name is James Cavalo, like my father before me, like my son who came after me. They’re gone now. I do this for them. And I will do this for you.”So, TJ Klune, I exhort you: sales and quality are not the same thing, even if your livelihood depends on your writing. Harper Lee wrote only one good book in her life (and I’ve read both of her books). You’ve already written a lot more than she ever did. “Crisped and Sere” is as strong and moving and well-crafted as any best-seller that the mainstream press will offer to its legions of mainstream readers. Be proud. Yes, write what your fans expect and they will reward you for it. But treasure these two books for what they are, not what they earn. They have earned my respect.

Gee, what can I say after finishing this epic tale? My words failure to capture such a poignant, heart-rending, touching tale. Certainly, it's about loss, tragedy, insanity....and yet recovery, comedy and redemption. No, it doesn't all end well but what does happen is the starkness of the human condition at its worst and best. Personally, I am left with the capacity of the human spirit despite flaws to live with the shadows as well as the light.Klune did an exceptional job at instilling compassion and the creation of an unusual dysfunctional family that is able to live with the demons and be ok. Oh, if u read this one don't feel surprised when the eyes water , your heart beats faster and feel the depths of friendship.Thank you , again, T J for making it real and connecting to our humanity. Surely, it goes without saying that I highly recommend this second book.

I loved it and it kept me on my toes all through the pages. The journey and fight continues for Cavalo, Lucas, Bad dog and SIRS. This is a continuation of the tale that started in Withered + Sere and how the countdown to the showdown with the man known as Patrick, head of the Dead rabbits( cannibals) and finally the fight with the Dead rabbits. Cavalo had something Patrick needed , Lucas. Cavalo has gotten fond of his clever cannibal and he was ready to fight for him than give him up . Oh, the town of cottonwood was also involved in this somehow but you'll have to read these books to find out how. Two more stories to come. Can't wait. TJ Klune, you are the best. I highly recommend this book.

I think I love TJ Klune's dark fiction because it tempers his sentimentality, and because it isn't in him to create characters with no goodness. So all of the characters turn out very human.There are many things I love about this book and only a few I don't. Things I love:His use of metaphor. No cliches, no overexplaination, it all works.The open ended questions. Can Cavalo really speak to his dog or is he just nuts? Both are true as long as neither is explicitly explained.Not too much oversentimentality - the characters don't lose their darkness even at the end.Characters, plot, everything is strong.Thank you for having strong woman characters that stand on their own. Not main characters, but they stand out.Cavalo and Lucas are great characters.Things I didn't loveA few dips into oversentimentality.A few causes where he fell into his habit of overusing italics for emphasis.The ending drags out. I was ready for it to be over before it was. It was a pacing issue more than a plot issue.The final complex action scene didn't play out clearly. I have no idea what actually happened.A little bit of issue with time. Like medication not lasting 150 years.The romance wasn't bad but I didn't really feel the chemistry.Dog not really dog like. More a caricature of what a person wants a dog to be like.But the things I loved outweighed the things I didn't.
