Mr. Nosey is horrifying! I instantly returned this book once I was able to read the entire thing. I cannot believe people think this story is okay. I’m pro original Hans Christian Anderson tales, gore and all, but this story is terrible. Cutting off someone’s nose because you think they’re annoying? What lesson is this supposed to teach? That it’s okay to be violent towards people that annoy you?

The Little Miss: Pocket Library was a bit disappointing. Each book is about 5 pages. They are not stories; more like bios of each character. Not what I was looking for.To be fair, the books are good quality (very small board books). I just wished there was more to them.

This book (Mr Dizzy) is missing pages (deliberately). The writing has been merged and pictures removed. It seems this kind of thing is also concealed by the fact that reviews are not of individual products. Note, this is not a review of the story, but I don't think that matters as the reviews are all merged anyway.

My Son just loves this book! He lost his first one, so this was a replacement. The whole book collection is worth while, I consider the humor just a little more to an adult level, not in a R rated version. Parent's will get a kick out of this book also.

I should have read the details better. These are tiny board books with very little writing. Was trying to get a Miss set to go with my daughters Men. She is 6 and like them, but it's not much ready for her. These are baby books.

Mr. Greedy LOVES food! What he eats for breakfast would feed our whole family and more. No sooner has he finished breakfast then he starts thinking about lunch! Out on a walk, he comes across the giant's house and the delicious meal waiting on the table - sausages the size of pillows, peas the size of cabbages etc! The giant has him sussed and decides to teach him a lesson. (Reminds me of Bruce Bogtrotter with the chocolate cake in Matilda.) Is there maybe a better way to teach your child not to eat as much? Yes! BUT the lesson here is that Mr. Greedy did indeed learn his lesson, kept his promise not to be greedy ever again thereby gaining control over his original lack of self-control and ended up looking much better for it.A great book for all ages!

Mr. Grumble is as you can guess by his name, GRUMPY! When his alarm clock goes off in the morning he says, "Bah! It's the start of yet another horrible day!"Hmm... how to cure him? Well, a wizard comes along who doesn't "like people who are constantly grumbling and moaning." What does he do? He turns Mr. Grumble into a little pig! As you read on through the story, you will read how each time Mr. Grumble grumbles he becomes a larger and larger pig? Does this cure him? You'll have to read to find out!

I loved these books when I was three and now my three year old loves them too. I'm so glad they are still in print and easy to find. Something about these simple colorful illustrations and fantastical stories really captures the attention of children ages 3-5. Added the little miss collection to my daughters Christmas list :)

Having already been a reader and fan of The Circuit series, I was expecting Titanborn to be good.Luckily for me, it lived up to expectations :)When I first began reading this book I was expecting it to be part of the same universe as The Circuit books, but it turns out that although it's somewhat similar, it's different enough to stand entirely on it's own.There were a bunch of lengthy descriptions of people, things, places and events, which kinda distracted me a little bit, but that is normal when you have to build an entire world in a few pages.Overall this is a solid piece of Sci-Fi writing, with a pretty interesting world and story. When there will be more stories set in this world, I will doubtless read them.

A strong sci-fi thriller from one of the best new voices in science fiction. Part space opera, part thriller, Titanborn was a great read on its own and promising start to a new series.Malcolm Graves is a collector, a combination bounty hunter, detective, and assassin. After a major terrorist attack on Earth, Graves is tasked with tracking down and eliminating the perpetrators. With him is his new partner Zhaff, a conditioned human with incredible combat skills and intelligence but zero social skills, just like an android. They discover that the attack is just the beginning of what could be a much broader conflict that could tear the Solar System apart.Graves and Zhaff live in a future where Earth was struck by a meteor nearly wiping out the species. One small group of brave souls escaped to the Saturn moon of Titan, while the rest endured, survived, and rebuilt on Earth as well as Mars and other celestial bodies of the solar system. The great reunification of the Earth survivors and the people of Titan is not a happy one, creating an ethnic friction between the two peoples.Graves is a noir detective of the future, employed by a major corporation but with all the authority and immunities of a government agent. Graves and his apprehension of getting a new partner was reminiscent of those classic detective stories, police procedurals, and shoot'em ups from back in the day.The terrorist pursuit is pretty exciting, although takes a little bit of time to develop. The first 30-45 pages are pretty slow, taking time to set the stage rather than advance the story. After that, the pace is more than adequate. It doesn't have the great twist at the end that many noir mysteries have but there are a few surprises.A note on the world-building: A growing number of sci-fi authors love using mega-corporations as the powerful, authoritarian entities in the future rather than governments. I am not sure why, especially since many of the novels do not touch on economics, cronyism, or any of the other elements that usually come with the "evil corporations" theme. Instead, it is more like what puppet Tim Robbins said in Team America "The corporations are greedy and act all corporationy, and they make money..."Titanborn does not bother with the economic inequality or corruption themes, instead sticking with the bounty hunter/detective angle. Very smart in my opinion. I don't think most sci-fi readers want to read about economics. At the same time, some may be disappointed the book does not dwell on any social commentary.Titanborn takes place in a very detailed and well-developed future. The world-building, technology, and physical descriptions are all excellent. You get a real strong sense of the Earther-Ringer tensions and can easily understand the animosity and bitterness that emerges between the two.While most elements of the book are compelling, there is no particular part that really blew me away, aside from the world-building. I enjoyed reading it but it didn't quite leave that powerful lasting impression. Even so, I recommend it for readers who love thrillers and space operas, as well as general sci-fi readers.

Think dystopian stories like Blade Runner and the old gumshoe noir films, oh, and even a touch of James Bond all set in a verse somewhere between Firefly and The Expanse. Did I mention doomsday already came and went? The protagonist, Malcom Graves, is a gritty, strung-out "Collector" hunting bounties on the company dollar. After botching his latest job, fate hands him a second chance at redemption in more than just his employer's eyes. While on vacation, he finds himself at ground zero for a terrorist attack. He must then take on a cyborg partner he doesn't want while they chase the attackers across first the earth and then the solar system. All the while, Malcom feels the past chasing him.Post-apocalyptic and sci-fi gumshoe fans will love this story. I know I did!

The story centers on Malcolm Graves, an aging rough and tough detective type called a “Collector”, who has both law enforcement and judicial powers, but whose job is more like that of a bounty hunter. He works for Pervenio Corp., one of the most powerful corporations controlling both commerce and government. He is given assignments by them to resolve problems. Normally, this involves removing the trouble maker, most often, by using his pistol. Recently his skills have come under fire as his latest assignment didn’t go as planned and resulted in excessive collateral damage, creating a high cost to his employer, and the suggestion that maybe he should take some time off.He recognizes that he is off his game, possibly due to his age as well as the culmination of years of excessive drinking. He also wonders if he’s going ‘soft’, as he allows some lowlifes to live that he would have just killed in the past. It seems that he likes the work, making quick cash then blowing it during his frequent drunken stupors. We find out that he has an estranged illegitimate daughter, who he chased away due to his callousness.While taking a forced vacation on Earth, he finds himself in the perfect position to be assigned a new mission and redeem himself, when a terrorist sets off an explosion near him. He starts investigating the crime right away and sure enough he is given the new assignment, but with one stipulation. His boss saddles him with a straight laced rookie Collector, who he must mentor and take with him on this assignment. Turns out to be a good thing as each of them develop new skills along the way, while entertaining us with a few humorous situations.Mr. Bruno has done a good job creating a possible future conflict and his portrayal of human behavior is spot on. The series has a dark theme and subject matter. There is cruelty, torture, killing and happiness for any character seems hard to come by, but it is still worth your time.This story sets the stage for the next book “Titan’s Son”, where the point of view is reversed and we are given the opportunity to understand the ‘Terrorist’ from their perspective, i.e., that of being ‘Oppressed Freedom Fighters’. The time lines of books 1 & 2, basically mirror one another. This allows the reader to easily grasp the big picture of the conflict, and better understand the motivations of all parties involved.The author currently has plans for the “Children of Titan” series to be comprised of 4 books. The planned third book title is “Titan’s Rise”, and the fourth is “Titan’s Fury”. Where the author will further develop & conclude the Titan conflict.

Jane McAlevey has been an organizer in the labor and environmental justice movements for the last twenty years. She is a contributing writer at The Nation magazine. Her articles can be found in a variety of progressive journals and magazines. She is currently working on a second book and is a frequent commentator on radio and TV shows. She is a PhD candidate at CUNY Graduate Center and lives in the San Francsico Bay Area.Bob Ostertag is the co-author of Raising Expectations (and Raising Hell) and author of People's Movements, People's Press: The Journalism of Social Justice Movements and Creative Life: Music, Politics, People, and Machines. He has also published two movies and over twenty CDs of music, and covered the Central American civil wars as a journalist. One of the smartest most articulate writers I've ever read on the topic of working class consciousness and labor organizing. I cannot recommend this book highly enough: for leftists, for workers, for union organizers, for political scientists, for economists with a brain.Beautifully written, cogently argued, deeply felt.

Important stuff. As a former organizer for an International Union I was consistently confronted with many of the dynamics and situations at issue in McAlevey's book - both good and some very, very bad. I deeply appreciate reading such a thoughtful analysis of many themes I have thought of and discussed, now a rank-and-filer fighting for union democracy in a corrupt and unresponsive local union. This book is very necessary.Her experiences are educational for anyone looking to organize for the betterment of working people's lives. If I had had someone like McAlevey to work for, I might still be doing the sometimes very powerful, good work of field organizing. She reminds me why I left and also how much I miss it. I'm revitalized for my constant fight in the shop for democracy and power.Thanks, Jane! Solidarity.

A gripping narrative that advocates a philosophy of political action. Five stars for weaving together narration and philosophy in a compelling way. I see another reviewer staunchly disagrees with the author and has bad things to say about her. I have no idea if his critique is based on fact or if it's sour grapes since he's an SEIU organizer and SEIU gets the brunt of McAlevey's barbs. But personal stuff aside, there's tremendous value in the articulation of the idea of deep organizing or whole person organizing, where the context of organizing goes beyond the workplace and deals with the community and the political environment. If you'd like to see the middle class make a comeback, you shouldn't miss out on an exploration of these ideas. And it's fun to read.

Jane's book was recommended to me by a friend who used to work with her. I found it so compelling that I've since gifted the book to three people. If you're interested in the future of the American labor movement, read this book. Jane's experiences make for interesting reading, but the lessons of her time at SEIU are the crucial element.

Jane McAlevey is bright and knows what she is talking about. Organizing workers is more important today than ever. If you aren't in a union, especially in health care, read this and start organizing.

Jane McAlevey clearly spells out the reasons for unions, the abuses of some union officials, and how to organize and get people involved. In these times of union-bashing, this is a must-read book about organizing the right way and making workers aware of organizing for their own best interest. Corporations are making a fortune and want to keep all the money for themselves, that's why unions were started in the first place. Walmart if a prime example of why we still need unions and why corporations are fighting with every thing they have to quash workers from joining. I'm the proud daughter of a union father who fought for decent wages, medical care for families, and humane working conditions. I'll never be able to thank my Dad enough. My continued support of unions is my way of showing my Dad that I appreciate all of the sacrifices he made for our family. I hope that people remember history and the reason we now have the weekends, 40 your work weeks, and more humane working conditions than in the past.
