About the Author

Judy Beecher has an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Indiana University and a graduate degree in mathematics from Purdue University. She has taught at both the high school and college levels with many years of developmental math and precalculus teaching experience at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). In addition to her career in textbook publishing, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and promoting charity projects for a children's camp.   Judy Penna received her undergraduate degree in mathematics from Kansas State University and her graduate degree in mathematics from the University of Illinois. Since then, she has taught at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and at Butler University, and continues to focus on writing quality textbooks for undergraduate mathematics students. In her free time she likes to travel, read, knit and spend time with her children.   Marvin Bittinger has been teaching math at the university level for more than thirty-eight years. Since 1968, he has been employed at Indiana University—Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), and is now professor emeritus of mathematics education. Professor Bittinger has authored over 190 publications on topics ranging from basic mathematics to algebra and trigonometry to applied calculus. He received his BA in mathematics from Manchester College and his PhD in mathematics education from Purdue University. Special honors include Distinguished Visiting Professor at the United States Air Force Academy and his election to the Manchester College Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1999. His hobbies include hiking in Utah, baseball, golf, and bowling. Professor Bittinger has also had the privilege of speaking at many mathematics conventions, most recently giving a lecture entitled "Baseball and Mathematics." In addition, he also has an interest in philosophy and theology, in particular, apologetics. Professor Bittinger currently lives in Carmel, Indiana with his wife Elaine. YOU DON'T NEED THE BOOK! YOU CAN TOTALLY TAKE THE CLASS AND BE FINE WITH JUST THE ACCESS CODE! BIG WASTE OF MONEY!

I'm back in college to finish engineering. After taking the college placement (I did really good on it), the college told me I could start in Calculus. I had calculus in the late 90's, but wanted to refresh on the basics. This book, being a textbook, is a great place to start for me to rebuild some things I'd forgotten. It's an easy read and seems well laid out. I'm reading the Trig book by the same authors now. And yes, I do all the calculations at the end of each chapter. I have old TI-81 and TI-82 from the 90's that I use for some of the graphing, most of my graphs are drawn by hand. Algebra is an easy math that I think most things should be done without a calculator. If you always need the calculator at this level, I wouldn't recommend a math-centric career field. If you're going into higher levels of math, use your brain more as it will pay off when you go into Calc or physics or chemistry.

This is an okay book for the typical college student who is taking the course because s/he has to and doesn't care. And there's probably no choice. For certain sections that need to be stressed (because most of the students are of the sort who find math hard or something they just hate and just have to get through it to graduate) because of how demanding the problems can be at this level, it can get really lacking in the number of examples.But ultimately, this book is grossly expensive for what it is. A College Algebra book covering these topics in this much space should not be the price it is, especially considering the 5th edition doesn't actually add much new in spite of what it claims to. The problems aren't really varied, either. There are a lot of good ways to organize your problems so students can clearly differentiate between difference of squares and perfect square trinomials and how to factor these using the super simple "memorize this formula," but this book fails spectacularly, and it's not the first time this book does that.It just comes off as more of a "Hey, I wrote these lessons. Now I'll use a Random Problem Generator to create the problems!" from the author. This is never excusable because problems should have some purpose in mind, either with clear progression (easy -> medium -> hard), development (rote work -> word problems and understanding), or motivation (neat examples). You won't get that here.

This textbook was exactly what I needed for college. My college is online so normally I get my books electronically, but for math I preferred a physical copy. It worked great but now that it's an outdated edition and nobody is using it anymore, I can't sell it. Oh well, at least it got the job done.

I ordered this manual with my textbook and still paid less than the bookstore wanted for just the textbook. This manual is very useful and will be well worn by the end of the summer. It not only gives you the answers and the steps that were used to get to the answer, it also gives verbage on how to work the steps. If there is a formula involved, it will state the formula first, then tell what numbers to plug where (especially helpful for word problems). Keep in mind that the solutions manual, like the book, only has solutions for the odd problems. This is not an issue for me due to the fact that my instructor only assigns the odd numbers. I would suggest this manual for anyone taking algebra.

Had to buy it for a class. I rely on the books more than the lecture to learn math, and this one did a decent job.

You still have to buy a new subscription to the mathLab. I thought it was included. kind of misleading title. I could've gotten the book alone for like thirty quid less easy. rip off.

This books is a great add to my collection. It is well written and helps to explain some ideas that I previously thought were much more complex than they turned out to be. The book gets you the sounds straight away without having to memorise new licks.

This is huge and very beautiful. Since it came with a hard cardboard and is spiral bound, this is the only coloring book I have that encourages me to color anywhere. I could color plopped up with pillow on my bed, on the sofa with TV running in the background and of course, at my coloring table.The pages are quite thick like Johanna's other books and they have a whitish look. This is different from the pale yellow look on Secret Garden. Loved this one. I liked the leafy way in which the months are written. My 5 year old loves to color them

I like her drawings but the publisher dose not offer it for sell early in the year for next year.i like to put lots of detail in the drawings which means I spend a lot of time coloring .Thus if I want to give the finish calendar as a gift I do not have much time to do it in especially if you want to give it to more than one person,like your mother or more than one friend. How about them out around June instead the fall or late summer.

Longtime fan of Johanna Basford's inky paper goods. Excellent quality. I predominantly use pencils and felt tips work as well. Always loved to color and now it's okay to enjoy as a grown up. The quality of the designs satisfies my need for attention to detail. No space is too small to fill in and enhance the beauty of the finished work of art. Coloring outside the lines is totally acceptable. Take your time. It's not a race to the finish but a relaxing journey through the creativity of your own subconscious.

If you are a fan of hers and her work then you will love this. It has the same as the book but some are bigger and it allows you to add even more detail. I love this one, its one of m favs out of all the series. Magical Jungle is the best so far!

I get one of these every year and this one is just as beautiful as the last several years. I do like the pages that are slightly less complex because I am much more likely to finish them before the month is over.

I purchased this newest baking book for the gluten free recipes. I gave my daughter Rosanna’s first book last Christmas. It was great until we found out she and I have celiac disease. The recipes are fairly easy. We have even converted some to gluten free. The pictures are fun and beautiful. Great ideas.

What a treasure of a cookbook. Great tips and ideas. Beautiful illustrations and recipes I can’t wait to try. Overall this a gem. Happy with this book. Ideas and recipes for every holiday. Highly recommend.

Ordered this as a "used" book, however, it is brand new and in perfect condition. Arrived quickly;approximately 11 days. I have gone through the recipes -love the way she has everything broken down and the photography is fantastic. I purchased this for me and my 7 year old grandson who has been cooking with me since he was 3. We have her first cookbook and have made some of the recipes from it. Most of these look simple to make; can't wait for him to see it and decide which recipes we want to make first. I highly recommend this to young cooks who have some experience or someone to help.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Ro and her Nerdy Nummies series. I really enjoy this cookbook and love the creative desserts and that it offers gluten and dairy free, as well as vegan, recipes. The visuals are vibrant and appealing too and offer helpful step-by-step pictures for the more complex desserts. The only con I can find with this book is that it requires a lot of special pans, molds and cookie cutters that could be costly if you don’t already own them and want to recreate the look exactly. Ro does include a few templates in the back of the book however, which is helpful for those willing to do the extra steps. In my option, this book is for a more advanced baker if you’re wanting it for Ro’s creative designs.

Another positively perfect product from Ro!! A fantastic cookbook to work our way through :) My daughter (and son) are addicted/amazed by Ro. We traveled 4hrs (one way) so they could see her at a meet n' greet (after standing in line for 6 hrs) seeing the shear joy, excitement and admiration in my children's faces made every second worth it (mind you I had a shattered foot was in a immobilizer and in excruciating pain, but I will endure anything for my children and their happiness) you would think it would've have been a quite ride home, but they went through her first cookbook on the long drive home lol. Her products are Amazing! Her spatulas especially!! My husband yells because I kill spatulas (putting in containers split edges, ect) Not Ro's... Her products, her recipes, her book.... yumm, creates excellent bonding time for family and growth for children

I absolutely love watching Rosanna on her YouTube channel and was really excited when she announced this book. The photography in the book is outstanding and the recipes are cute and fun! I especially love the fact that some of the recipes are gluten free, dairy free, or vegan because of my food allergies. Can't wait to make some of these recipes!

My daughter is a huge fan of Ro’s, even choosing to meet her for her Kids Wish! So when she found out that Ro was releasing a new book, of course she wanted it. She loves Ro’s style of cookbook, with lots of pictures of the whole process.

Book is separated by recipes for each holiday - Valentine's, Easter, etc. Great photos and easy to follow recipes. Very creative! Book came in perfect condition.

I have been to Micronesia twice. The first time I lived there for a couple of years, and the second time I went as a tourist. I purchased this book before returning the second time. It had been seven years since I had been in Micronesia, and some of it had changed drastically while some parts hadn't changed at all. This book was a great guide, and helped me to find some of the better spots that I had somehow managed to miss while I lived there. Here is how the book stacked up. THE GOOD: 1) This book covers all of Micronesia, and that is no small task. It has information about all parts, ranging from Palau to the Marshall Islands. 2) This book gives a lot of information about each island. It explains the history, tells you what you should take, tells you about hotels and restaurants (from the five star establishments to the low end ones), tells you about how to travel to each island as well as how to travel around while on the island and many other bits of useful information to make your stay more enjoyable. 3) The maps are good. They aren't super detailed, but are nice maps of the islands and the villages on them. Quite good enough for any sight seeing or exploring that you might want to do. 4) This book tells you about the popular and good diving spots, hiking spots and historical points. So even though some of the book may be outdated (the nicest hotels in Guam) there are some things that will probably never change (how to hike to a nice hidden waterfall on Pohnpei.) THE BAD: Parts of Micronesia are changing quickly, and this book fails to capture those changes. For example, the list of popular places to stay, eat and shop on Guam wasn't very helpful since the island had changed so much in the past five years (since the book was published). To counteract this information lag, I just picked up tourist publications while I was on Guam, and that updated me enough to fill in all the gaps. OVERALL: It is like a computer that is a couple of years old: sure it is outdated some, but it still works nicely, and it is much better than having nothing at all!
