Really enjoying this little book, very interesting, keeps my mind off other things. It's always interesting to see the different elements of buildings, the many styles, and various periods. Looking at the features of different buildings is like free art!

INCREDIBLE. In this pocket sized little book is everything on Western Architecture from Classical to modern times. It's a fun detailed read that provides alot of great resources without all the excess in depth and detail. it's also full of amazing pictures.

I ADORE this sturdy little manual. I can't get enough of it! It is concisely packed with scholarly information. After hours and hours of study as an Interior Design and Art History major, I love being able to sit down with a concise compendium of easy to reference, erudite information on architectural types and styles, from vaults to pilasters. It is not overly verbose (as are most texts on the subject), which works for my learning style.Information is separated into quick sections with small reproductions of period etchings, which are viewable in such fine detail that you may even occasionally want to whip out your pocket magnifying glass. I mean, it's all here. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, carry it with you, and ENJOY the heck out of it! Do I sound happy? OH YEAH!! Great purchase! More please.

Very useful little book.

Clear illustrations and well-written explanations. It's thorough and talks about the different styles of architecture, which is what I was looking for.

I don't know if its just me or that I'm getting old, but I can barely see the beautiful illustrations that the book have.I think the author have a good idea, the idea that you can "read" a building if you have the correct vocabulary. I think its not that easy, there's a lot of variables involved. Its not just a languaje, its a discipline, and its not universal. I think architecture is history's testimony, and not just a form of expression.Anyway, beyond what I think, if architecture is a languaje, maybe this book is the right syllabus.

This is a great book and needs to be read by anyone who wants to be educated about the fascinating history of architecture. I love this book!

Michael A. Singer is the author of the New York Times bestseller, The Untethered Soul, which has also been published in Turkey, Brazil (in Portuguese), Switzerland (in German), Spain, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Poland, and Italy. I give the first 37 pages a five star review. Michael Singer gives a wonderful​ example of how you are lost in a dream-like state. You are at the mercy of every thought that arises in your mind and you have no idea of what's happening. He wonderfully shines a light on the process that is happening to you and if you are paying attention, you could discover one of the most important ideas you could ever learn; you are not your thoughts. The first 37 pages are worth the price of admission and I have added this book to my personal lending library.Unfortunately, everything after that is similar to explaining what a shadow looks like to a blind person. He will tell you about some pretty amazing stuff but he won't tell you how to get there. You should buy his book, it will give you one of the best explanations as to why you should meditate, but it won't tell you how to meditate or attain it's benefits.I would recommend reading Mindfulness in plain English after reading this book. It will give you basic instructions on what to do next. As a warning though, it has some brief supernatural references, please just ignore them if they offend you, it really does contain a great instruction on how to meditate and loose the bonds that shackle you to anger, anxiety, depression and whatever else you are suffering from. Best of all.....You will do it by yourself.

As other one star reviewers have noted, the book is disorganized, full of empty phrases, and lacking in any fundamental actions that a reader might take to achieve the bliss promised herein. Some pearls of wisdom: “It is actually possible to never have another problem for the rest of your life.” “Any time you’re having trouble with something, think of death.” “How you learn to stay open is up to you. The ultimate trick is to not close. If you don’t close, you will have learned to stay open.“ “For there to be manifest creation, energy must get in the dynamic of cycling around itself to create a stable unit.” I suspect that the overwhelming positive reviews of the book are influenced by adherents to the author’s philosophy and beliefs. To be clear: I’m not criticizing those beliefs, just the book.

I read the audio version of this book multiple times, bought copies of it for clients, and shared it with friends. Never have I read a book that so radically transformed the way I think. It was remarkably freeing to become so aware of how much I allowed my own thoughts to run my life. After reading Michael's book, I simply allowed irrelevant, erroneous, totally made up thoughts to just float on by without attaching my emotions to them. THAT was freeing!Most human beings are completely unaware that most of the thoughts in our mind are complete untrue. YET, we believe them, follow them, become emotionally entangled in them, allow them to change our mood, allow them to change our behavior.This book was also freeing in the sense that I let go of needing others to behave in a certain way in order for me to be OK. The reason I was't OK had nothing to do with anyone outside myself. It was a miraculous shift within me (to say the very least), when I realized I was trying to manipulate outside circumstances for me to feel OK in life.When I realized the shift needed to be made within ME for me to be OK in life, total game changer! I let everyone off the hook and stepped into unconditional peace and unconditional joy! Have you ANY idea what life is like when your own peace/joy is totally UNCONDITIONAL? It means you don't need anyone to change or be different for you to be happy. It means no-one outside yourself controls how you FEEL. It means you're no longer an emotional puppet on the string of everyone else's behavior, attitudes, decisions, choices, etc. YOU feel inner joy/peace no matter what. Hello?! Total game changer!I LOVED the audio version of the book because the person who read it was perfect for the content. Not to mention the ability to hit replay a million times on the parts that were SO transformative.This was a unique book. I've read TONS of other books on similar topics but the way Michael conveyed the material was unique and different and I really GOT IT! Thank you Michael Singer for the growth, expansion, and transformations you inspired within my very soul. My soul now largely "untethered" from the constant (and mostly irrelevant) chatter of the mind. :) I am a new person as a result of this book (and a few other audios I purchased from Michael's website which expanded upon what he taught in the book).

Singer's message is well known: The way for the soul to become unteathered is for us to realize you are not your thoughts, sensations, or pain--you are the witness of these. You can look at events from the seat of awareness or the seat of disturbance. You keep your infinite soul in a house made of your model of the world and expectations of people. When you approach your walls, you will feel insecurity and fear, but if you stay in the witness position these tensions will pass through you. But then Singer becomes dogmatic: "At all times remain conscious in the face of pain; Don't allow events to leave residue inside of you; you must decide if you want to be happy and commit to being happy ALL the time because God doesn't want to be around people who are miserable. (?) Fortunately in the last chapter he corrects this egregious, error saying God is non judging and sees only beauty in us. I would hypothesize that God loves us in spite of our shortcomings.

It provides teens with a variety of options and suggestions on a plethora of topics, rather than trying to point teens in a specific direction. I feel that the book also helps give the reader a broader perspective on sexuality and relationships. The personal examples from the authors truly make the book come to life. They show the reader that everybody is human, and we all go through some tough times, but with the right attitude, and a proper approach, people will pull through.Sorry for getting a little philosophical there, I just wanted to share some of what makes this book so great. I have bought a couple of copies to give to friends who are going through a process of self-discovery. I would highly recommend this book to any teen, or the parent of any teen who is questioning their sexuality, or is out and not sure where to go from there.

I really like this book to use with teenagers who are questioning their sexual identity. It's written in language that is very teen friendly and non-threatening. If you're a spiritual being in any sense read this book. I was raised RC in a time when nothing in the Church was questioned and you lived by your Faith and took everything taught at face value. I read this book in a single day, not because it's a short read but because the topic and story is well told. I surely didn't understand the Hebrew texts but the way the author weaves his journey's story and illustrates to the average reader explanations for his findings was like turning a light on in a dark room. It will always be a memorable read for me.

I have formal Hebrew training as well as a degree in Mathematics which I use at work to reverse engineer crypto systems. I find this book to be a desperate attempt to find things by skipping letters to form new words and then wrap meaning around it. I have found many strange patterns in crypto hex patterns that occur randomly eventually if you look at enough samples. This to me is the same thing.Much more interesting to me is instead of skipping every Nth letter, just skip 0 letters in between and you will discover that amazingly it perfectly spells out the entire Hebrew bible in perfect sequence. And hidden within this sequence are many marvelous fulfilled and future prophesies and hidden truths that most people overlook.

The theology of the author appears to be evangelical Christian. Thus, the sensationalism which could result in cultism is removed. However, one must except a priori the spiritual experience of the author, the computer program of the author's brother, knowledge of Biblical Hebrew of the author, and the valid connection of the author's analysis and findings to the Madonna El Rocio appearance in order to believe the conclusions as valid. Thus, leaps in logic as one follows the arguments by the author has me in doubt. Yet, the apparent intigrity of the author keeps me open minded.

I thought it was an eye opener in revealing the codes the author found & pursued & to reach the conclusion that God wrote the Hebrew Bible. I believe there is much for us to discover & this is proof that there is. Well written so that a novice can understand what is being presented for the most part.

Richard Freiherr von Rosen served as a gunlayer on a Panzer tank during Operation Barbarossa; led a company of Tigers at Kursk; a company of King Tiger panzers at Normandy and in late 1944 commanded a battle group against the Russians in Hungary. He was awarded the Iron Cross Class I and II; the German Cross in Gold being the highest Wehrmacht award for bravery, awarded on 28 February 1945; the Panzer Combat Badge II Grade and the Wound Badge in Gold.

This memoir was probably the best one I've read from a German Army soldier, right beside "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer (which was a bit longer, more eloquent, and contained a bit more detail about his day-to-day ordeals facing the Russians). The fact that this memoir was written from the perspective of a Tiger tank commander on both the Eastern & Western fronts makes it especially valuable and rare.It is the perfect compliment to the J.J. Fedorowicz publication (from 2000) of "The Combat History of Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503" of which the author was a part (he also contributed heavily to this Fedorowicz volume, thus there is some duplication of information). There are many photos previously unpublished, as mentioned by other reviewers; some coming from the author's private collection and some from other surviving members of his unit.There are also numerous details that would assist military modelers such as the individual tank numbers of the Tigers in his company, things they carried on the outside of their tanks, and many interesting battle details from both fronts. I was particularly interested in the chapters on his experiences in the Normandy Campaign, one of my main areas of interest. But even the chapters on the Russian Front were fascinating and riveting.I found this book hard to put down, and how many times can one say that about a war memoir, particularly from a German soldier? The author had a keen eye for details of interest and writes in an engaging manner. It's almost as good as those I've read that were written by professional journalists.I am very glad this volume was translated from the original German edition, allowing me to happily add it to my personal library. I highly recommend it if you have even a passing interest in W.W. II and veteran accounts. As a German memoir it is one of the best and may be the best memoir of a Tiger tank commander. There just aren't that many out there. A rare gem!

I originally had been worried that this might be fiction pretending to be non-fiction having seen a Youtube video that described another book on Tiger Tanks as questionable. This is most certainly not the case here. The book is packed with photos of the author with panzers in various locations as s well as photos of different German military documents with his name.A most amazing book detailing whst it was like to be a commander of Tiger tanks. Certainly he was amazingly lucky to survive the war though he went from battle to battle to hospital and back to battle again. If you like tiger tanks, you are used to seeing the same photos used over and over again in different books. This books was filled with photos I had never seen before, sharp, high quality images. The number and quality of the photos alone are worth the price of the book. It is an extremely good read, well written, and exciting.

Richard von Rosen’s riveting and reflective combat memoir vividly conveys the frontline realities of different theatres of operations of the WW II. The narrative is told with the vivid detail of an impassioned eyewitness and his rare and moving memoir is a first person chronicle of nightmarish experiences.The book is divided into 10 chapters (with nice presentation of main events during the period described) and I was glad to see professional forewords by dr. Robert Forczyk and also the author.After the first chapter (“The second World War begins”), the author described in Chapter II’s 100 pages his first battles during the opening phase of Operation Barbarossa (“On the Eastern Front June – August 1941”). Operations at Stary Bychow, Breaking through the Stalin line or Battle for Roslav - where author was wounded for the first time - are excellent descriptions of the daily tanker’s life and sacrifices.Author’s convalescence and additional training are detailed in”My quiet time in the Reich (February 1942 - January 1943) before going “Back in Russia (January-May 1943)” as tank platoon leader to participate in the bitter fights for Rostov. The story of the Battle of Kursk -“Operation Zitadelle (June-July 1943) - includes the encounter with SU 152, stepping on a mine (engineer training before operation paid off) or his second wound on 14.07.1943.After another year, his unit was transferred to France to fight against Allied forces. The next two chapters, “The invasion Front, 1944” and “Operation Goodwood” are filled with Western Front experiences.“At Sennelager Camp (September-October 1944)” is a very short chapter about a training/reorganization period with more information from photos than text. One photo shows unteroffizer Kurt Knispel, tank ace at 23 years old with over 160 kills (KIA 28.04.1945).Chapter IX - “The Collapse (1944-1945)” describes the armored operations in Hungary (military coup included) and also the Battles for Gyongyos, Szolnok, etc. Wounded for the third time, Oblt. R. von Rosen is hospitalized in a Luftwaffe hospital in Bratislava.In the last three chapters “Military Hospital and the End of the War (February-July 1945)”, ”Home Again” and ”A prisoner of the French”, the author recalls the humiliation of defeat and surrender, but also the brutality of French occupation.Eventually, worth mentioning is the von Rosen’s resume at the end of book. In 1955 he (re)started a military career being commissioned into Bundeswehr as Hauptmann and he retired as major-general in 1980.The book is filled with an impressive number of contemporary photos (over 400), plus some sketches. Some photos have even some interesting (tactical) comments. Sometimes I found disturbing to start a narrative just to be interrupted by more than 10 pages of illustrations. I had to flip back several pages in order to remember the initial phrases. As throughout the text, the photo captions pay a special tribute to his former comrades and friends.The volume ends just with a short epilogue and no notes or index sections are provided.One of the more valuable WW II memoirs! Recommended!

I thought this was an excellent book. While not as "gripping" as other war memories, Von Rosen definitely has the credentials - surviving Kursk, the Goodwood carpet bombing in Normandy, and other harrowing events. The battle accounts were not as detailed as some, but still very interesting. The photos are excellent as well, which really make it 5 stars for me. I would like to know more about his post war career where he rose to rank of general in modern German army - but it isn't covered much in this book. I still recommend it.

A well written personal ww2 experience of great German soldier. The book also contains many excellent personal photos ,from author and coleges. I highly recommend this book for anybody who likes military history . Hardcovers for ever! Ken van wie
