This book was clearly written by authors who wished to convey their love of the details of how computers work from software down to the hardware level. It was obviously not written for profit, but to support the education goals of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.Ever since my first involvement with programming machine language on an IBM 1620 in 1962, I have been fascinated with the interface between software and computer hardware. Each chapter starts out gently with a historical narrative about how that chapter's topic evolved from the early days of computing and proceeds right up to the very sophisticated techniques used in modern computers. It provides the details of processor pipelining, memory caching strategies, graphic acceleration, video compression, how Ethernet and wifi networking challenges are resolved, methods of digital storage, and much more. All this explained with great care providing an emphasis on details that are often ignored in other computer books. The only thing missing was a discussion of the Bluetooth interface of the Raspberry Pi 3.There were times when I failed to understand a sentence only to re-read it and find that in my haste I overlooked or misread a key word. Every word, sentence, and paragraph is important. Computer architecture has numerous acronyms and with very few exceptions, each is introduced properly and referenced in the book's detailed index. This book has been proof-read with extreme care and its content written with true expert knowledge. It is a masterpiece with 500 carefully-written pages, numerous enlightening diagrams, and costing only about $20.

Excellent overview of state of the art computing including instruction sets, buses, memory architecture, compiler technology and so on. The Raspberry Pi is described in some detail but other architectures are mentioned as well. The authors have also included historical notes which help the reader understand just how we got where we are.Experience programming and interfacing microcontrollers is helpful but not required. The material is authoritative without being overly formal. Anyone interested in understanding modern micro technology will find this a worthwhile read.

I wish I could give it 4.8 stars. This is a great book. Too many computer architecture books are unapproachable (half the book is mathematical notation). This book is nothing like that. It explains things very simply and is very approachable. My only complaint is that they sometimes use acronyms without explicitly defining them and perhaps assume you'll infer the meaning from the context (an example is "LPDDR2", the "LP" is nowhere defined - I assume from context it stands for "Low Power" but that was never clarified in the book, the acronym is simply introduced with no definition). Even so, I highly recommend this book for the motivated reader - just know you'll have to Google some things on occasion.

This book has very thorough explanation for anyone who wants to learn computer architecture beyond the basics. The author gets into many details of how a machine works from hardware to software. It doesn't get too deep into some details which you will learn in the computer architecture and engineering textbooks, but gives you some intro into how things work and provide direction on where to look for further study.

I've been doing "computer stuff" for a very long time with embedded computers. I wish I could have started with this book 30 years ago. It is a good introduction to what computers can do, and how people can get them to do it. It is not a deep dive, but a good general discussion. The breadth is really quite wide, from processor and instruction set internals, to memory, input/output, sound, and graphics. These are the many things that a Raspberry Pi does. If you are a newbie that has been blinking lights and printing "Hello, world" to the Pi console, this is a good next book to see the whole world under the hood of the machine.

This is an excellent computer architecture book for beginners.

An excellent book that in one volume encompasses the basics of an entire computer science and engineering education. It covers everything from how wifi and magnetic recording works to the basics of writing software. It's much more broad than just a discussion of how the RPi works, which is both a pro and a con - I don't need to know how to program, but I am curious about things like how the Raspberry Pi boot process works, and it doesn't go into much detail there.Still, there's no way I could give this book anything but five stars. It's an amazing work that should be required reading for every CSE major.

This book was written by the people that invented the Raspberry Pi ...enough said.

I swear, I know Pinnacle and Studio Two billed this is pulp/sci-fi adventure game, but all I can think of is the Flash Gordon serials, the comics and even the film. Granted, the cosmology of the game is quite unique but the number of similarities will be a nice surprise for fans of the genre. It also stages classics like Lost in Space, Buck Rodgers, and John Carter style gaming.The Savage Worlds mechanics is the spine for the work, and it holds everything in mind perfectly despite the game working around tactical combat options. But any group familiar with these rules can dive right in and explore a space opera with more races than any previous release I have seen. But the mechanics really come to shine when you sit down to create a new alien race. Granted the Deluxe rule book goes into some detail for this, but it is a bit heftier for Slipstream.If you have a hard time excepting the fact that there is no vacuum in space, that there's no need to have knowledge of 100 languages to speak to anyone who crosses their path, and even that there are no computers, sci-fi fans can get a lot of milage from Slipstream. I would even go so far as to say the game is also Kid Friendly.The game is just great Pulp fun and is easy to mold to your needs. Follow the Slipstream to the centre of the dimension; adventure awaits!

Out of all the Savage Worlds sourcebooks, this is one of my favorites. I'll recommend it right off.Black holes have sucked in many worlds and spaceships. Sometimes, Slipstream is where they go. This relatively small pocket universe is populated with perhaps a hundred worlds, and just as many different alien races. Several races are described in detail, and many more are outlined.The setting, Sci-fi Pulp with added flexibility, offers a lot of options to both the players and the gamemaster. The main plot is pretty good, but it's pretty much effortless to drop any scenario into Slipstream. Recommended.

Space pulp is a fun genre, and this high quality book is great if that is the game you are looking for.

If you're like me and always loved the 1980's Flash Gordon movie, now you can play it in Savage Worlds Slipstream! Of course the story is different but the feel is the same. The book is beautiful and the campaign should last a looooong time. Awesome!

With a feel reminiscent of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers from the old serials, Slipstream is an awesome take on the Pulp Scifi genre. With a setting built to explain away the broken physics and impossible incongruities that will make any stickler for scientific fact beat themselves in the forehead with a brick. Dash in and save the day! Ride a plume of atomic fire into the clouds of the wave. Foil the world ending plots of the evil empress!I got this for Christmas and I have to say I'm tickled pink!

Gillian Jones is a multifaceted author. I’ve had the honor of reading all the books that she’s written throughout her career and I’ve seen her grow by leaps and bounds. Gillian has the ability to hit on hard topics not many authors would dare to touch on, but then, she can easily switch to a lighthearted Romantic Comedy like she did in Love Won.Mr. McCoy Graves and Miss. Eastlyn Hatfield… Boy – Oh – Boy.This book had me from the first sentence – maybe even by the first chapter heading. I laughed more than I’ve laughed in a book in a while. Eastlyn was a hoot and her quirkiness shone from the very beginning. Gillian’s ability at scene description is spot on and because of that, I was able to experience everything that was Eastlyn and McCoy. There are so many spoilers I’d like to explain in detail, but I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone. (Cleanup on isle three.)Gillian also introduced two supporting characters, Kami, Eastlyn’s best friend, and Keaton, Eastlyn’s brother. Their interaction and back and forth banter was just as hot as Eastlyn and Coy’s. I can’t wait to read their book. I know the chemistry between those two will be explosive.Personally, this is one of my favorite taboos to read about. The elusive brother’s best friend.Gillian doesn’t just take the reader through the here and now, she takes the reader back and shows them all the reasons why Eastlyn had such a strong love/hate relationship with McCoy. The teasing on McCoy’s end was effortless. Eastlyn made it so easy for him to push her button from the moment they first met. I adored it!I loved how I was able to read the story from both Eastlyn and McCoy’s POV. Being able to experience a couple’s romance for both sides is always a win for me.OHHHH…the diary entrees!! You’re going to love the diary entrees. Ms. Jones embraced the typical teenage girl’s mind in every entry. Those might have been my favorite parts of the book.This is another five-star read for me. I’d read this gem again, and again.Gillian, my dear, you’re the bee’s knees. Keep ‘em coming, lady.

Love Won, the first book in the Winning At Love series, is my favourite type of book - a really good slow burner romance, with some great humour running through the storyline as well. I love the dual POV's being separated into different sections - first up is " She Said " from Eastlyn's POV, followed by Part 2 " He Said ", from McCoy's POV...........and then we have " They Said "! The flashbacks to the past provide many moments of hilarity.Poor Eastlyn! To say she has always liked McCoy is a huge understatement - she has admired him from afar and wanted him for years. YEARS!!! They first meet when McKoy is the new kid in 8th grade, and he becomes fast friends with Eastlyn's brother Keaton - making McKoy a permanent and torturous fixture in Eastlyn's life. Eastlyn is hilarious - she is a walking disaster and her clumsiness throughout the story made me LOL many times. And her mum........she's just a little on the crazy side with her cake for every occasion.The slow burn romance that built throughout this story had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see when the attraction between Eastlyn and McCoy would finally be too much for them to ignore. It was HOT when they finally sort themselves out - and the side story that was happening at the same time between Keaton ( Eastlyn's brother ) and Kami ( her best friend ).........how long til we get that story?? Can't wait to read that one, it's definitely going to be a hot slow burn romance as well.

I was looking for a book to get me started in XML. I wasn't interested in Web Services or anything like that, I just wanted to learn how to read through and do some clever things with XML.This book really helped me a lot. This should be the starting place for all .NET programmers wanted to begin XML. I appreciate the book it has helped me tremendously.

This is the best dot net 2.0 XML book around. The content is clear and objective, covering every XML class that you can use in an application.But if you need to use XML, and framework 3.0 is not a problem, try looking for a LINQ for XML Book: faster, easier and much more simple!And remember: LINQ for XML is the best LINQ part ever! The other LINQ classes are not so amazing like those ones.

This book has a number of flaws, but it's still a useful book for learning about using XML in the .NET world.There are a number of weakness in the book in that it's rather shallow and leaves out details or concerns on a number of topics. Examples include skimming over a DataSet's ability to infer a schema when reading data in. Are there any drawbacks? When would you use this? When might you want to avoid it?So with the negatives out of the way, let me focus on the positives, because they're definitely there. There's a lot of content on a broad range of topics. There's a very solid introduction to XML which is soundly and concisely written. The discussion of SAX and DOM is nicely done, and there are a large number of fundamentals which are well-written.You'll be able to learn the basics on things like XML's use of DTDs, how schemas roll into things, the basics of validation, and a number of other topics. The chapter on XML in ADO.NET has some good coverage on XML support in DataSets, and there are solid chapters on Web Services, SQL Server support, and a chapter which combines remoting, XML in ASP.NET, and configuration files. Joshi also wraps in a chapter on XML's role in WCF.I think the book's a solid introduction to XML in the .NET world.

Book is extremly poorly written and covers just a little more than MSDN documentation.The entire book is copy-pasted template paragraphs of the following format:- 2-3 lines of code- a paragraph of 5-10 lines explaining what it does, almost always following the same template:"The code creates a class named Employee with five public properties: EmployeeID, FirstNmae, LastName, HomePhone and Notes... " page 284"The code creates an instance of the proxy class... The code then binds..." 287"The code creates a form-level var... The code then creates..." 288"The code creates an instance ... It then sets..." 289...and so on the entire book.Imagine someone commenting every line of code he's written. EVERY line. And using the same copy-pasted phrase for that.For example:page 283 contains a simple class Employee with 5 simple properties (name, id etc.) Nothing more. That simpliest straight-forward code is spread over 2(!) pages (seriously, I can send you a scan of the page if you like, huge empty space in between the code lines), with a paragraph before the code and after, explaining what is inside this class.

Really enjoying this little book, very interesting, keeps my mind off other things. It's always interesting to see the different elements of buildings, the many styles, and various periods. Looking at the features of different buildings is like free art!

INCREDIBLE. In this pocket sized little book is everything on Western Architecture from Classical to modern times. It's a fun detailed read that provides alot of great resources without all the excess in depth and detail. it's also full of amazing pictures.

I ADORE this sturdy little manual. I can't get enough of it! It is concisely packed with scholarly information. After hours and hours of study as an Interior Design and Art History major, I love being able to sit down with a concise compendium of easy to reference, erudite information on architectural types and styles, from vaults to pilasters. It is not overly verbose (as are most texts on the subject), which works for my learning style.Information is separated into quick sections with small reproductions of period etchings, which are viewable in such fine detail that you may even occasionally want to whip out your pocket magnifying glass. I mean, it's all here. Do yourself a favor and buy this book, carry it with you, and ENJOY the heck out of it! Do I sound happy? OH YEAH!! Great purchase! More please.

Very useful little book.

Clear illustrations and well-written explanations. It's thorough and talks about the different styles of architecture, which is what I was looking for.

I don't know if its just me or that I'm getting old, but I can barely see the beautiful illustrations that the book have.I think the author have a good idea, the idea that you can "read" a building if you have the correct vocabulary. I think its not that easy, there's a lot of variables involved. Its not just a languaje, its a discipline, and its not universal. I think architecture is history's testimony, and not just a form of expression.Anyway, beyond what I think, if architecture is a languaje, maybe this book is the right syllabus.

This is a great book and needs to be read by anyone who wants to be educated about the fascinating history of architecture. I love this book!

About the Author

Michael A. Singer is the author of the New York Times bestseller, The Untethered Soul, which has also been published in Turkey, Brazil (in Portuguese), Switzerland (in German), Spain, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Poland, and Italy. I give the first 37 pages a five star review. Michael Singer gives a wonderful​ example of how you are lost in a dream-like state. You are at the mercy of every thought that arises in your mind and you have no idea of what's happening. He wonderfully shines a light on the process that is happening to you and if you are paying attention, you could discover one of the most important ideas you could ever learn; you are not your thoughts. The first 37 pages are worth the price of admission and I have added this book to my personal lending library.Unfortunately, everything after that is similar to explaining what a shadow looks like to a blind person. He will tell you about some pretty amazing stuff but he won't tell you how to get there. You should buy his book, it will give you one of the best explanations as to why you should meditate, but it won't tell you how to meditate or attain it's benefits.I would recommend reading Mindfulness in plain English after reading this book. It will give you basic instructions on what to do next. As a warning though, it has some brief supernatural references, please just ignore them if they offend you, it really does contain a great instruction on how to meditate and loose the bonds that shackle you to anger, anxiety, depression and whatever else you are suffering from. Best of all.....You will do it by yourself.

As other one star reviewers have noted, the book is disorganized, full of empty phrases, and lacking in any fundamental actions that a reader might take to achieve the bliss promised herein. Some pearls of wisdom: “It is actually possible to never have another problem for the rest of your life.” “Any time you’re having trouble with something, think of death.” “How you learn to stay open is up to you. The ultimate trick is to not close. If you don’t close, you will have learned to stay open.“ “For there to be manifest creation, energy must get in the dynamic of cycling around itself to create a stable unit.” I suspect that the overwhelming positive reviews of the book are influenced by adherents to the author’s philosophy and beliefs. To be clear: I’m not criticizing those beliefs, just the book.

I read the audio version of this book multiple times, bought copies of it for clients, and shared it with friends. Never have I read a book that so radically transformed the way I think. It was remarkably freeing to become so aware of how much I allowed my own thoughts to run my life. After reading Michael's book, I simply allowed irrelevant, erroneous, totally made up thoughts to just float on by without attaching my emotions to them. THAT was freeing!Most human beings are completely unaware that most of the thoughts in our mind are complete untrue. YET, we believe them, follow them, become emotionally entangled in them, allow them to change our mood, allow them to change our behavior.This book was also freeing in the sense that I let go of needing others to behave in a certain way in order for me to be OK. The reason I was't OK had nothing to do with anyone outside myself. It was a miraculous shift within me (to say the very least), when I realized I was trying to manipulate outside circumstances for me to feel OK in life.When I realized the shift needed to be made within ME for me to be OK in life, total game changer! I let everyone off the hook and stepped into unconditional peace and unconditional joy! Have you ANY idea what life is like when your own peace/joy is totally UNCONDITIONAL? It means you don't need anyone to change or be different for you to be happy. It means no-one outside yourself controls how you FEEL. It means you're no longer an emotional puppet on the string of everyone else's behavior, attitudes, decisions, choices, etc. YOU feel inner joy/peace no matter what. Hello?! Total game changer!I LOVED the audio version of the book because the person who read it was perfect for the content. Not to mention the ability to hit replay a million times on the parts that were SO transformative.This was a unique book. I've read TONS of other books on similar topics but the way Michael conveyed the material was unique and different and I really GOT IT! Thank you Michael Singer for the growth, expansion, and transformations you inspired within my very soul. My soul now largely "untethered" from the constant (and mostly irrelevant) chatter of the mind. :) I am a new person as a result of this book (and a few other audios I purchased from Michael's website which expanded upon what he taught in the book).

Singer's message is well known: The way for the soul to become unteathered is for us to realize you are not your thoughts, sensations, or pain--you are the witness of these. You can look at events from the seat of awareness or the seat of disturbance. You keep your infinite soul in a house made of your model of the world and expectations of people. When you approach your walls, you will feel insecurity and fear, but if you stay in the witness position these tensions will pass through you. But then Singer becomes dogmatic: "At all times remain conscious in the face of pain; Don't allow events to leave residue inside of you; you must decide if you want to be happy and commit to being happy ALL the time because God doesn't want to be around people who are miserable. (?) Fortunately in the last chapter he corrects this egregious, error saying God is non judging and sees only beauty in us. I would hypothesize that God loves us in spite of our shortcomings.

I got this book for myself to help me figure out what to do now that I'm "out," as well as to help me assist my peers in their respective coming out processes. I appreciate that the book covers a broad range of sexual orientations. It provides teens with a variety of options and suggestions on a plethora of topics, rather than trying to point teens in a specific direction. I feel that the book also helps give the reader a broader perspective on sexuality and relationships. The personal examples from the authors truly make the book come to life. They show the reader that everybody is human, and we all go through some tough times, but with the right attitude, and a proper approach, people will pull through.Sorry for getting a little philosophical there, I just wanted to share some of what makes this book so great. I have bought a couple of copies to give to friends who are going through a process of self-discovery. I would highly recommend this book to any teen, or the parent of any teen who is questioning their sexuality, or is out and not sure where to go from there.

I really like this book to use with teenagers who are questioning their sexual identity. It's written in language that is very teen friendly and non-threatening. Addresses a lot of questions that my clients had. Recommend! My clients liked it so much they went to check it out at the local library after reading my copy.

Bought this because my daughter requested it. She’s 14 and recently told us she is Bi-sexual. She wanted something to help her along her journey and said this book did just that. So thank you for writing something kids can turn to when they don’t want the advice of adults.

My preteen who is going through her coming out phase has really benefited from this book. It sits on her nightstand every night and has been immensely helpful in making her feel not alone, not weird, and understood. Highly recommend.

The 206-page book does a masterful job in normalizing what has too often been perceived as deviant, pathological, immoral, even inferior sexual orientation. It is co-authored by a gay male and a lesbian who, throughout its development, consulted an eager, five-member group of gay teenagers. Its educational approach is appropriate not only for teens, but for anyone, teen and adult, male and female, gay and straight, closeted and out, and is refreshingly objective, fact-filled, and plain-spoken.
