I've read several books on Pistol Pete and there was never a guard with his creative genious, showmanship and ability. I can only imagine Maravich and Irving on the same team and what that could have meant for the Atlanta Hawks. Pete has always gotten a bad rap as an individual player, but I think if he had played for a contender during his prime, he would have been been considered the greatest (Jordan, Cousey, West, etc. included). The book brought back great memories of his innovative play, unbelievable play making, passes and shots. The fact he scored 44ppg in an era with no 3 point shot nor were they allowed to play varsity as a freshman says volumes of his long standing NCAA records.There has never been another like him and I doubt there ever will be. I also enjoyed his retirement years, commitment to Christianity. I enjoyed the insights of other great players/coaches and how they percieved the Pistol. I couldn't put the book down. I'd recommend going to youtube and searching for "Maravich".....even young players will be amazed at his talent and ability. Maravich is an insightful book from his youth to his untimely death at age 40. In my opinion he was the greatest guard in the history of basketball.

This is the first Maravich biography that I have read, and I was impressed by the thoroughness of research. From the story of Pete's grandparents in Pennsylvania to his untimely death on a church basketball court to the current status of his wife and children, this book tells it all. Though he failed to achieve his ultimate dream--winning a championship--he ended up with something much better during the last five years of his life--inner peace as a gift from God. I witnessed Pete's final freshman game in Knoxville, Tennesse in 1967, and it was the most stunning sports event that I have ever seen. I had not seen such magic on the court before, and was immediately awed by his unforgettable performance. His freshman game-by-game statistics are not given in the book, and neither is the date of that game. I do know that he scored 741 points his freshman year, and those are not included in his college records. This is a wonderful book.

Pete Maravich would have been my age had he lived. It was one of the worst days in my life when he died. The man could do things with a basketball and to his opponents that no other player could do during his time...and he did things that were not even imagined by those with whom he played with or against. Were there better shooters? Yes, but only one...Jerry West. Were there better ball-handlers? No! Was there anyone more fun to watch play this wonderful game of basketball? No! Think about it. He averaged 44 points per game in a 4-quarter college basketball game with no time clock and no 3 point line. This is the only significant sports record that will NEVER be broken...at least not during this century.It is frankly boring to watch the NBA now since Bird, Jordan and Johnson have left the game. I don't care to see the countless tatoos with gang-related symbols on most every body. Maravich put out 100% every time he played. So did Jordan, West, Bird and Johnson. Now we have the prima-donnas demanding higher and higher salaries and then complain about earning only 14 million per year. The NBA is in trouble and will only make a "come-back" when someone like Maravich comes along again. So what is the new "new" thing that will bring the fans back to the NBA? My guess is that it will be someone who can inspire us again...just like Pete Maravich did. Read the book. If you know anything about basketball, you will thoroughly enjoy it.

A very good book about the life of Pete Maravich, maybe, the greatest basketball player ever. Sad, at times, yet very revealing about his emotional state of mind.

This book is a must for me. I really do not know what the native plants are and if a plant is not native I do not want that plant. This is the best book for plant identification I know.

An excellent and welcome companion book to "Midwestern Native Plants" by the same author. It is well organized by seasonal interest and local options. This book also includes a practical photo "Gallery" of notable trees and shrubs in natural settings. Very detailed and well documented!

Its wonderful to try to identify some of the wonderful trees and shrubs I see. This book definitely helps that process.

Excellent book for those interested in native landscaping!

The poetry is superb--Brooke is one of the most underrated poets of the 20th century. This particular edition is trash, however. The publisher forgot to print the title on the front cover--it just says "of Rupert Brooke," which should give you some sense of the care that went into printing this. The header on every page says "The Complete Poems of Robert Brooke." Robert? The publisher should probably go back to its original business of cleaning sewers, or whatever he did before he decided to defile books.

Enjoyed this after reading about Rupert Brooke in another book before the First War. He was a real ladies man.....and his poems are evocative of the period before the war blew up.....some of them are almost predictive of his life and death.

Truly a master of poetry. Most enjoyable to read in short segments, to absorb the music of his words too.

I happened upon the poetry of Rupert Brooke in an old old (truly ancient) used bookstore in a serene corner of Vancouver Island... something about this aged, sepia-colored, hardcover beauty of a book made me feel it had been abandoned by someone else and left there especially for me to find. The rest of the day I was on the beach with it, and each new page further convinced me that I had stumbled upon greatness. Each phrase carried a thoughtful hush along with it, and I felt that to breathe was an interruption. Time and time again I have been brought back to the poetry of Brooke, and this collection has become one of my treasures. Someone abandoned it for me to find, and yet it has become something I would run back into a burning house to retrieve.These are brief poems about love and longing, doubts, serenity, nature and goodness, frivolity, victory and jealousy, and stirring wartime sonnets that express a noble idealism in the face of death. These latter are grouped under the author's title of "1914" and are his most well-known series, perhaps not only because of their perfection, but also because of their prophetic nature. Brooke lived a brief but eventful life (1887-1915). With the outbreak of World War I he was commissioned in England's Royal Navy, and took part in a disastrous expedition at Antwerp which ended in retreat. At the age of 27, he died from blood-poisoning on board a French hospital ship off the coast of Skyros, Greece. He was buried at night, by torchlight, in an olive grove about a mile inland. Reportedly, if you go there you will find a little wooden cross with just his name and the date of his birth and his death marked on it in black. The fifth poem (entitled The Soldier) in Brooke's sonnet sequence begins... "If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field that is for ever England."

I first picked up this book in my local library when I was in high school at the tail-end of the 1980s. It totally changed my life. I knew I was a poet/writer from an early age, but reading Rupert Brooke's work really inspired me to dig deeper within myself and be a better writer. With the exception of Dylan Thomas and William Blake, Brooke was the one writer I admired above all others. I have carried this book around with me for the past13 years, and whenever I need inspiration I read his poems. Although I don't find all of them to my taste, there are some that stand out above all others, most notably "The Call", "The Voice", "Success" and "Ambarvalia" - some of these are incredible mystic poems that inspired a lot of my simliar work. I would advise anyone interested in the war era poets, or just darn good poetry, to look this one up. It's awesome.

This is a great book with some of the best poetry ever written. Great for anyone that wants to get into Rupert's work.

The best of the best in poetry that is both romantic and real. Very easy to relate to...the human questions we all hold in our hearts. MW

Thank goodness the sounds aren't too loud, but you'll be hearing animal noises all day long with this book, but that's not necessarily a bad thing! My almost 2-year old daughter loves following the stories of each animal, and we play match the animal to the story. And she's gotten to the point of identifying each animal and mimicking each sound!Future zoologist, I'm guessing :)

We love Eric Carle books and animals. This book is great for my 18-month and three-year-old. We had the On the Farm version, but it was used and then heavily used by my kids. They still loved pushing the buttons though, so I got this version. I love how it has different ecosystems.

My 16 month old has been REALLY into animal noises lately, so we got her this book thinking she might find it amusing. She won't put the thing down! Now I'm just hoping the batteries run out soon, or we might just "lose" this book for a while... Seriously, though, this is a great little book and my daughter loves the colors and sounds.

Book was delivered over a month late and when it arrived, the pages were slightly bent. The sounds work beautifully, but the rest of the book looks a bit flimsy. The critique is all on the manufacturing and shipping of the book itself - Eric Carle’s illustrations are still beautiful!

It's fun & educational ;) There are buttons that you press for each animal (they make each animals realistic associated roar/sound) as you follow along with the book. Also a plus that it has a strong built to last cover since the book is a little larger than a traditional book.

I bought “Hear Bear Roar” for my 3 y/o nephew. I didn’t know that he already has the book (without the sound effects) & knows it word for word. My sister says this was his FAVORITE gift on Christmas! Score 1 for auntie!I’ll definitely be buying more “World of Eric Carle” books for him.
