In recent years, she has consulted in numerous states to assist with establishing licensure test preparation programs.Dr. Apgar has done research on licensure funded by the American Foundation for Research and Consumer Education in Social Work Regulation and was chairperson of her state's social work licensing board. I studied using this edition, along with the app, for a month. Passed my first try with a great score! It was a great generalist review of the SW profession. During testing, I was able to vividly recall material straight from this book
I bought this book at the end of February and my LMSW exam was at the end of March. I used only this book to study & I passed it on the 1st try! The book was really helpful, especially the practice test at the back. My only recommendation would be for the next book to structure the practice questions as they are on the exam. In addition to this book, PLEASE TAKE THE ASWB ONLINE PRACTICE EXAM!!! That's what's MOST helpful!!
This review guide claims to reflect the 2018 blueprint of the ASWB exam. However, all ethics questions refer to a 2006 version of the NASW Code of Ethics. The code of ethics is a substantial part of the exam and many of the questions and answer explanations do not reflect what will be on the test. It is not worth the money.
Great book. Two areas that were not covered with great detail was the Code of Ethics and diagnostics. I recommend the social work podcast and Diagnosis Made Easier to fill in gaps. Social work podcast also covers theories and interventions in detail. This book gives the most comprehensive guide to study though. It sets you on a path. I used it along with the noted above and the Pocket Prep app which has about 600 questions similar to the example exam in the book. The questions are NOT like the exam but they get you accustomed to what they’ll be like. I didn’t buy the aswb exam but I heard those are the most similar to a real exam. Hope this helps
I just purchased this book and the app doesn’t work with IOS (Apple products). You can still use the information on a computer or android.Let the studying begin and the price dropped less than a week of my purchase ðŸ˜
So I waited a bit to post this. I applied to take my CSW examination in KY around the time I ordered it. I realized quickly that I needed to practice some before taking it. I had read so many stories of people taking the test and failing which only added to my anxiety. This book helped me with understanding the test and provided a great resource for me to touch up on the areas that I needed improvement in. The only con I found with this book is that the code for the app had been used already. However, there is a great app on the app store called pocket prep that is a great companion. The questions will link you to pages in this very study guide so that you can study. So they worked great together. Will this ensure you pass the first time? I won't promise that. Everyone tests differently. I will tell you that this could help you though!
I purchased this book with anticipation that I would be given an overview of the 4 content areas of the exam. It's a good overview. I was enticed by the mobile app feature. The download instructions were not clear so, I had to call customer service. It would have been better if this was just straight forward, but persistently, I had to jump through some hoops. I'm pleased with the outcome because it is worth it to have these study materials at home AND in the palm of my hand for the on-the-go person. If you're willing to go through a bit of trouble with the mobile app feature and if you're looking for an overview, this might be the material for you. Fingers crossed this is good enough for the exam!
If you are planning to take the MSW exam this is a must have. Very well written, easy to understand and has ALL you NEED to pass the exam. It definitely worked for me!
