This is a cross-over team-up that collects three issues of Spider-Man (12-14, Bendis) and Spider-Gwen (16-18, Latour). Without any reveals, the plot has our heroes meet (they are from different dimensions), fight foes from both of their worlds, and hop to other universes in a scramble to save the day. Long-time fans will appreciate: a panel with the Daily Planet; a quick jaunt to Kirkman's Marvel Zombies; the modern Nighthawk's world; and a shot that pays homage to the Peter Parker/Mary Jane Watson wedding issue. The story alternates writers and artists. It is this juxtaposition that shows the stark difference in writing and artistic quality between the Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen team. Bendis's writing is more character driven, with a playwright's skillful focus on dialogue. Sara Pichelli's artwork continues to be superb. Robbi Rodriquez's pencils pale in comparison - the faces are less expressive, the lines less tight and the backgrounds less detailed. The coloring of the Spider-Gwen books remind me of the Doctor Strange comics from the 60's/70s when he was dropping acid and using bright colors and trippy landscapes. It is rare that a dimension hopping story works in Marvel or DC anymore. It's been done much too much. Seeing alter-ego that of opposite alignment is just not that interesting, and it only surprises/titillates new readers or the simple-minded. It's a gimmick that is used when the someone can't come up with a good story (telling a story out of sequence, or seemingly killing a character and bring them right back are other common gimmicks).Kudos to the cover. Would love to see the reactions to it in racist areas.
Amazing web swinging action. also Gwen & mile love making.
Maybe it’s too soon for Spider Gwen to be in a relationship with Miles Morales. I don’t know. But if people like it enough, then that’s fine with me.
I prefer the Bendis work to the Latour work, but it was a pretty good story told well. Really made me appreciate Spider-Gwen and read more about her. Though her universe seems a bit more brutal than 616. Fun though.
I have been hating on Marvel team-ups since the 90s. I buy the Marvel titles that I like and I don't want X-factor mingling with the Avengers. It's messy and derails whatever storyline that I was following in the monthly title. But, in the 80s I loved Spider-Man team-ups! Spidey and Dr. Strange fighting some dark ethereal horror. Spidey and Man-Thing in some swampy adventure in New Jersey. Spidey and Wolverine fight AIM terrorists in Africa. It was awesome and usually contained in a prestige graphic novel. This storyline was like that. Just Gwen and Miles bopping around the multiverse. Making friends and punching bad guys. And when I say the multiverse, I don't just mean the Marvel numbered universes.
I am a big fan great book it is amazing and the pictures are great how did you make them
Love the novel
I loved the story, but rated it a 4 out of 5 stars because I don't like the art work. Too sloppy and half-assed for my tastes. And considering that this is Marvel, I *know* that they can do so much better than this.
