Burden of Proof will cost you sleep. The two main characters, Jason and April, don't sleep much, and neither will you until you finish reading it. Be careful--this book is a nail biter. The tension starts at the beginning and goes through the last scene.It has bonus effects. The opening scene made my heart race with its reality. The sensory authenticity caused me to smell the blood, wonder how the stains would be removed, feel the barbed wire, hear the sirens, taste the smothered liver and greens at the east Texas diner, and feel the softness of a baby girl's cheek. I bought it in Kindle form so I could listen to it and read it at the same time. Listening to it made it come to life. For me, an important test of a good book is dialogue that pleases my ears. Burden of Proof met that requirement.Another bonus effect is the humor included. I could imagine a thirty-something petite FBI agent swapping clothes with a little senior citizen. April, the FBI agent, runs from a Texas Longhorn named Romeo until she tears the elderly lady's long dress, loses the borrowed shoes, and squishes her bare toes into the soft black soil found in a cow pasture.I bit my nails over the suspense of this thriller, but what kept me reading was the romance.If you haven't read a DiAnn Mills novel before, this one is an excellent starting place. It's her best book yet in my opinion. Also, it's the first book of a new series.Have an enjoyable time reading Burden of Proof.

April and Jason share quite a few meaningful conversations about important things, while growing in their trust and admiration for each other. It's very nicely balanced and one of the author's best books!
Burden of Proof is another treasure from Diann Mills! She takes the many pieces of this mystery and brings them together all while taking her reader deeper into the lives of her characters, revealing brokenness along with grace, forgiveness, and healing. While peeling back the layers of darkness to solve a multifaceted crime, we the see the light of God’s love and mercy. I could hardly put it down! I read straight through to the end. Waiting for the next book now....
I loved the twist to this story line. Great to see a woman no matter the size fight for justice. This was a mix of who done it and finding out who you thought might have killed someone to who really did. Good twist to the ending. I can’t wait to read another book by Mrs. Mills.
This story has a strong storyline and strong characters. It has suspense, mystery, intrigue and many twists and turns. It also has a strong sense of faith too. A great read.
I like this author and she blends the elements of faith in well. Mid way through I would have given it 5 stars but the last third of the book was slow and got a bit unbelievable. I felt like the author had a page number requirement and was just filling up space. Waaaay too slow to get to the final resolve!
Once again DIAnn has kept us on the edge of our seats trying to figure out who done it! A great read.with no dull moments. An Adventure for sure...
