TED Talks reminds me a little of a book I read decades ago… Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess. As I read that book I kept thinking, yes, interesting idea – and another. When I finished, I thought ok good pointers but will it make any difference? Then I played someone who I had never won against in dozens of opportunities and I beat them.Bobby Fischer’s book was one of the first popular books I read that used programmed learning… stepping the reader through a series of painless exercises. I’ve also seen that technique also used in a book that teaches math by setting up the problems faced by Euclid, etc. and giving readers enough clues so they too can reach their own aha moments. While TED Talks doesn’t use programmed learning, it is very painless reading, packed with lots of good ideas. You may not come away and be able to deliver a TED Talk right away but you will come away with at least several new ideas on how to improve your ability to get your message across in group settings.Anyone who has seen several TED Talks knows there is no one way to deliver the talks but the book has plenty to say about what generally doesn’t work and what does. I’ll just hit on a few that struck me as helpful:• Don’t give a sales pitch. The speaker’s job is to give to the audience, not to take.• Sometimes it takes a little demolition before changing minds. Example: In ancient societies, a third of men died violent deaths. Modern media plays up violence because that’s what sells. We've changed. After crushing their stereotypes, now you can go onto your points.• Take your audience down your own path of discovery. By asking them to join the process, they get more involved.• Make sure your words and images work together.• Don’t leave a slide up once you are finished with it. Better to put up a blank screen to avoid distraction.• Transitions in Keynote should be kept simple. Cut when shifting to a new idea. Dissolve when slides are related. Dazzle distracts.• Most TED speakers memorize and then practice so much it sounds spontaneous.• Wrinkled clothes telegraph you don’t try. If you don't care, why should they?• Breathe deeply, take your power pose. Be sure to hydrate.• Keep your notes by your water. When you grab a drink, you can quickly glance at where you are. Notes can be there if you need them. Hopefully, you won't.I’m sure you’ll come up with your own list of tips from this very helpful book.

A friend told me about this book as I was in the midst of preparing for a TEDx talk. I picked it up with the same enthusiasm a 5th grader has for homework: "Guess we have to do this now, siiiigh." It turned out to be a compelling enough read to have me blaze through it in one sitting, way past my bedtime. As head of TED, not only has Chris Anderson seen a lot of extraordinary speakers, but also a lot of terrible ones. So he knows the ingredients of both great and mediocre speaking, and how to transform the latter into the former. He presents a highly structured framework useful for beginners all the way to seasoned professionals:• Foundation: presentation literacy; idea building; common traps to avoid; and the all-important throughline• Talk Tools: connection; narration; explanation; persuasion; revelation• Preparation: visuals; scripting; run-throughs; the open and the close• On Stage: wardrobe; mental prep; setup; voice and presence.Anderson does a particularly deft job of explaining the throughline concept and emphasizing its importance. So many talks and pitches miss this point, consequently making only a fraction of their potential impact. What holds together the disparate elements of the talk? Without a clear throughline, listeners may never take any of your lovely ideas home with them. The advice in this book ranges from the lofty and overarching -- e.g. a show of vulnerability brings the audience to your side -- to the technical and specific -- e.g. busy patterns on shirts come out looking funny on video. You may want to speak your talk and transcribe *that* instead of writing it out first. As a professional speaker and speaking coach, I really appreciate how Anderson has compiled many trade secrets that are understood unconsciously but haven't necessarily been articulated all in one spot. And the illustrative examples drawn from all-time greatest TED talks -- Sir Ken Robinson, Elizabeth Gilbert, Jill Bolte-Taylor -- are alone worth the price of admission. If you are a professional speaker or an aspiring one, this is a supremely useful reference. I applaud that one of the main themes of the book is to *serve your audience*. If you only do that, all your talks can only improve. And special thanks to Chris, for being kind enough to release this book just in time for my 3rd TEDx talk :)-- Ali Binazir, M.D., M.Phil., Speaking Coach & Pitch Doctor, KNP Communications; author, The Tao of Dating: The Smart Woman's Guide to Being Absolutely Irresistible, the highest-rated dating book on Amazon for 4+ years

Some books are easy to imagine exploding into narrative form from an Author's lifetime of work. Then there are the books that probably took years of cajoling from well intentioned friends before they finally come to fruition. This book seems like the latter. In a quiet signature style, TED founder Chris Anderson takes readers behind the scenes of some of the most well known moments from the iconic TED stage and what it took for those speakers to get there. Before TED Talks, the idea of a 17 minute non-fiction talk going "viral" with millions of views would have been unheard of. The point this book makes over and over again is that this is the real power of a great talk in the right moment. It can turn companies around and inspire people like nothing else. The premise of delivering an actual TED talk may seem like the most intimidating way to try and improve your speaking skills. The vaunted position TED talks take in our consciousness could make it seem like an unapproachable ideal. Yet reading this book, the one belief that comes through loud and clear is that being a powerful speaker is a skill that is within reach for anyone. Rather than sharing a secret formula for an ideal TED talk, Anderson offers tips and techniques that TED speakers use, but which could be applied for anyone. Aside from having delivered 2 TEDx talks myself, I also currently teach storytelling and speaking at Georgetown University. I will be recommending this book to my students - and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an actionable and entertaining book on becoming a more persuasive speaker as well.

It has been years since Jennie Buchanan walked out of Ethan Justice's life taking his heart with her. Jennie is getting ready to open a showing of her photographs to raise money for her charity Photos of Hope. Someone is determined that she not open her show and has threatened to kill Jennie. Ethan Justice and his siblings have been hired to protect Jennie.Having spent years trying to forget her, Ethan's family is worried that he will once again have his heart ripped out and they are not going to let that happen again. From the beginning Jennie tries to keep the walls up around her heart but is it time to let her guard down and allow people to care for her?As the threats on Jennie's life increase Ethan realizes that he is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her and that his heart never stopped caring for her. Will his love and skill be enough to keep Jennie safe and to show her what Christ's forgiveness is all about? This is the first in the Justice Agency books and as usual it seems for me I have read the series backwards! I read the 3rd one first, then read the 4th book and now have read this one. Thankfully each story can stand alone although having read the last two books I did know who Ethan would end up with. I really liked this story in that it has a lot of suspense, but it also has a great message of God's forgiveness along with our need to also forgive ourselves. The story was well developed and fast-paced and I never found myself ready to put the book up for the night. I read this during vacation so unfortunately I did have to put it up at times but was eager to pick it back up and get immersed in the story once more. In fact my husband had to do without my company for several miles of our drive today so I could finish! I'm looking forward to reading book 2 Dead Wrong soon.

This is the first book of Susan Sleeman's I have read, and am very pleased with it.Reading the description of the Justice Angency series reminded me of Dee Henderson's O'malley's (which I loved.) I am impressed with Ms. Sleeman's writing style and the premise of the book. Double Exposure is a well-written inspired suspense romance. It was a fast read, because the book was hard to put down. The suspense was riveting.Ms. Sleeman weaves God's lessons to be learned by Ethan and Jennie perfectly throughout the book. Some of them are: pride, forgiving ourselves as God as already forgiven us, letting the past go, seeing how God can use bad things in our lives to later help others, trust, and realizing God loves us no matter our pasts. Ethan and Jennie are likable and realistic. I enjoyed the introduction to the other Justice siblings. I am sure they will have interesting stories. Ordering Kat's story now! Happy Reading!

Susan Sleeman is one of my favorite authors'. I have read Double Exposure, Dead Wrong, and now High-Stakes Inheritance. All 3 books were so good! The action heats up quickly in this book, and I couldn't put this book down. Jennie is a photographer, and by mistake took pictures with drug lords in the back ground. The drug Lord and his helpers will do anything to destroy those pictures. Will her ex boyfriend be able to keep her save?I loved this book, and I hope you enjoy it too! I really enjoyed reading a Christian action packed thriller! I will be looking for more books by Susan Sleeman. Here is a sample from chapter 5Sirens wound through the air. A shooting would bring every available officer in the area. Probable an ambulance wail mixed in, too. He ran back to Jenie. Her eyes were glassy with shock. One hand pressed firmly against Ashley's stomach, the other circling her own waist. "You okay?" He dropped down next to her, stowing his gun so he didn't draw fire from arriving officers who could mistake him for the intruder. "no," She answered, her voice not more than a whisper. Her glazed eyes coupled with her own admission weren't good signs. He hoped the medics hurried. She looked as if she might pass out.

I liked the suspense part of the story. It was great and a good ending. I really like romance and suspense stories combined. My favorites are always when the couple in the story has a history of a break up or misunderstanding. This one however had too much back and forth reasoning with the woman going over the same things in her mind over why she broke up with the hero of the story. I thought the reason for her breakup was kind of stupid until I found out a little more what was behind her reasoning. Like I've said in other reviews though, writers can't write about perfect people all the time. There are people like her with low self esteem that think in their minds that no one could ever love them. I really liked Ethan. I did like the method the author used to finally pull Jeannie toward the right direction. She was the type of person that is hard to like though. I don't know how Ethan fell in love with her in the first place but that shows what a great character he was.

I love a good suspense book and this one delivers. This is the first book in "The Justice Agency" series of books which details 5 siblings who run their own private detective agency. There is a good balance of romance and suspense and I thoroughly enjoyed the importance that is placed on relying on God to meet our needs. I didn't end up figuring out "whodunit" until much later in the book, which is always a pleasant surprise while reading suspense novels. The characters are interesting and Ms. Sleeman does a nice job developing them. I did enjoy meeting the rest of the Justice siblings and look forward to reading their stories in the remaining books. The plot keeps moving throughout and is certainly a page-turner. Overall a nice job and great message.

I have an adopted granddaughter and loved the story that our family have lived the same life and now have great grandchildren another generation started. Adoption is such a wonderful time of helping others and protecting children thank you Susan for the story am starting book 2 right now

This Is Not a Valentine, by Carter Higgins

From School Library Journal

Gr 1–3—A little boy in a yellow shirt and glasses likes a girl in his grade school class. He brings her things like gumball machine jewelry that matches her shoelaces and his lucky rock. None of these gestures, among others, are valentines, he insists. After all, he likes this girl not just one day, but all the days. Almost every other page has the text and title of the book, "this is not a valentine," with not underlined. This proclamation is followed by a signal of everyday affection from the boy to the girl. Multimedia illustrations that mimic childlike drawings made with crayons and makers reinforce the grade school setting. As a children's picture book, the tender message of everyday acts of affection, as opposed to grand and less frequent gestures, is quite intellectual. Therefore, this book would make a good book for discussion with older children after it has been shared. VERDICT This enduring message of friendship should give this title a longer and broader shelf life than just another Valentine's Day book.—Mindy Hiatt, Salt Lake County Library Services

I adored this charming picture book by Carter Higgins! I can’t wait to stare this with my students for Valentines Day. From the already blown out wishes to lunch box PB & J students will relate to the ways we show others that we care - but of course they are NOT Valentines. A must own for classroom libraries. I can't wait to share this book with my fifth graders on Valentine's Day.

It's not! Carter Higgins has written a Valentine Day story that offers up the idea to readers that true friendship is unrelated to glitter, hear shaped cards, and sweet treats, but rather the moments shared. Through the constant reiteration that every action and token given is not a Valentine, there is an offering that feels more meaningful: noticing what his friend loves to do and wear, investing time in creating something for her, giving away a cherished possession, and being comfortable enough to be himself, to mention a few.

Adorable book on friendship that expands beyond just one day of the year. For this boy, Valentine's Day is not a day because he likes his friend all the days of the year and can't imagine limiting all those things reserved just for Valentine's Day to one day only. The cutest love letter ever.

This adorable story goes much deeper than glitter in its expression of love. A boy does not give a Valentine to a girl. Instead he shares a lucky rock, a secret hiding spot, and even a frog. The mixed media art is fabulous. Set at a school and rooted in a child’s perspective, This Is Not A Valentine illustrates some of the many little ways we can show someone how much we care.

I bought the book based on the reviews, but I find the book a little hard to follow and therefore disappointing. It is written in a way that is a little confusing and may be a hard reach for younger children in how it is worded. I am reading it to a 3rd grade class today, that will be the true test...

This is definitely a Valentine's Day book, but it's also definitely a book for all 365 days in a year. The charming concept is that a boy doesn't want to gift a valentine to his friend, because his affection for her lasts beyond just one day or one symbol in a gift.

Read this to my 4.5 yr old and 1.5 yr old and they didn’t care for it. It wasn’t a bad book - the illustrations were beautiful. My issue was the length and way it was written. More likely suited for 6+.

An everyday celebration of special friendships that don't need anything mushy or glittery to express how important they are. Love the author's take on things that are more special than valentines (gumball rings, lucky rocks, PB&J sharing) and the illustrator's depiction of the two friends when they are close together and when they're not. A love letter to the sweet ways friends express themselves.

Filled with fascinating cases, which are covered in sufficient detail. I'm not a law student, so take my advice with that in mind. I learned a lot about fundamentals of sports law and some precedent setting cases. Highly recommend

Very information book. It basically details numerous sports law cases, and provides the reader a look into how cases in sports have shaped the landscape of current major sports in usa. Good read, sometimes difficult to comprehend the outcomes due to use of law terms/language, but overall a good read..

This is a cross-over team-up that collects three issues of Spider-Man (12-14, Bendis) and Spider-Gwen (16-18, Latour). Without any reveals, the plot has our heroes meet (they are from different dimensions), fight foes from both of their worlds, and hop to other universes in a scramble to save the day. Long-time fans will appreciate: a panel with the Daily Planet; a quick jaunt to Kirkman's Marvel Zombies; the modern Nighthawk's world; and a shot that pays homage to the Peter Parker/Mary Jane Watson wedding issue. The story alternates writers and artists. It is this juxtaposition that shows the stark difference in writing and artistic quality between the Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen team. Bendis's writing is more character driven, with a playwright's skillful focus on dialogue. Sara Pichelli's artwork continues to be superb. Robbi Rodriquez's pencils pale in comparison - the faces are less expressive, the lines less tight and the backgrounds less detailed. The coloring of the Spider-Gwen books remind me of the Doctor Strange comics from the 60's/70s when he was dropping acid and using bright colors and trippy landscapes. It is rare that a dimension hopping story works in Marvel or DC anymore. It's been done much too much. Seeing alter-ego that of opposite alignment is just not that interesting, and it only surprises/titillates new readers or the simple-minded. It's a gimmick that is used when the someone can't come up with a good story (telling a story out of sequence, or seemingly killing a character and bring them right back are other common gimmicks).Kudos to the cover. Would love to see the reactions to it in racist areas.

Amazing web swinging action. also Gwen & mile love making.

Maybe it’s too soon for Spider Gwen to be in a relationship with Miles Morales. I don’t know. But if people like it enough, then that’s fine with me.

I prefer the Bendis work to the Latour work, but it was a pretty good story told well. Really made me appreciate Spider-Gwen and read more about her. Though her universe seems a bit more brutal than 616. Fun though.

I have been hating on Marvel team-ups since the 90s. I buy the Marvel titles that I like and I don't want X-factor mingling with the Avengers. It's messy and derails whatever storyline that I was following in the monthly title. But, in the 80s I loved Spider-Man team-ups! Spidey and Dr. Strange fighting some dark ethereal horror. Spidey and Man-Thing in some swampy adventure in New Jersey. Spidey and Wolverine fight AIM terrorists in Africa. It was awesome and usually contained in a prestige graphic novel. This storyline was like that. Just Gwen and Miles bopping around the multiverse. Making friends and punching bad guys. And when I say the multiverse, I don't just mean the Marvel numbered universes.

I am a big fan great book it is amazing and the pictures are great how did you make them

Love the novel

I loved the story, but rated it a 4 out of 5 stars because I don't like the art work. Too sloppy and half-assed for my tastes. And considering that this is Marvel, I *know* that they can do so much better than this.

In 1891, Walter McClintock graduated from Yale, with plans to join his father’s prosperous carpet making business in smog-choked Pittsburgh. Luckily, he was spared from a dull job by getting very sick with typhoid fever. To recover, he took a trip to North Dakota, where he fell deeply in love with the west. He worked as a photographer for a forest survey project, and became friends with the team’s Blackfoot scout, Siksikakoan. Later, Siksikakoan introduced him to the elderly chief Mad Wolf.Once Mad Wolf came to trust McClintock, he adopted the young lad as his son. Mad Wolf hoped that if his people had a white leader, they would receive better treatment from the incoming settlers, many of whom were not skilled at behaving with common decency. McClintock spent lots of time with a number of elders, listened to many stories, and several years later wrote The Old North Trail. He also took more than a thousand photographs, many of which illustrate the book. Today, a century later, Amazon lists his book as a best seller. It’s fascinating and easy to read. The Blackfeet lived on the plains east of the Rocky Mountains, from Montana up into Alberta. When the painter George Catlin met them in 1832, he said they were the happiest Indians or all. The Old North Trail was an ancient footpath that passed through their territory. In places, old ruts are still visible. Today, some suspect that it may have been 2,000 to 3,000 miles long, linking Canada and Mexico. Because many tribes used the trail, travel was dangerous. It was a common place for ambushes and tribal wars.In the old days, the Blackfeet used dogs as beasts of burden. Sometime before 1750, they acquired horses, triggering radical change. Horses greatly increased their ability to hunt, feed more people, wage war, haul trade goods, and zoom across the plains at superhuman velocity. Corn farmers became highly vulnerable to horse-mounted raids by neighboring tribes, forcing many to abandon their fields and become nomadic. After 1780, the Blackfeet were hammered by wave after wave of deadly diseases. Their population dropped by maybe 90 percent.By 1883, white folks had succeeded in nearly exterminating the buffalo, and this made the traditional Blackfoot life impossible. The tribe was forced onto reservations, given ration tickets, treated like dogs, and were not allowed freedom of travel. Missionaries introduced them to sin, hell, damnation, guilt, and submission. Teachers taught youths the ABC’s of civilization, using the English language.By the time McClintock arrived, many young Blackfeet were disoriented victims of cultural genocide, largely indifferent to their tribe’s customs, traditions, and religion. During important ceremonies, many would be drinking, gambling, or horseracing. Only the elders still remembered the traditional ways, and their days were numbered. McClintock wanted to record the story of these people, before their culture ceased to exist. The Blackfeet people fascinated McClintock, and he described them in a respectful manner. His book is a magical 500-page voyage into another time and place. Readers can soar away from the spooky nightmare world of automobiles and cell phone zombies, and imagine living in wildness and freedom. The Blackfeet elders shared fond memories of a way of life that was far more in balance with the circle of life. In the good old days, “the mountain slopes abounded in beaver, wapiti, moose, mountain sheep, and grizzly bears, while immense herds of antelope and buffalo roamed over the plains.”One night, McClintock awoke to discover a huge grizzly bear stepping over him to finish off his dinner leftovers. Grizzlies were still common. Wolves and coyotes often howled passionate serenades under the stars. Humans were not the dominant species; they were delicious two-legged meatballs. Modern folks, obsessed with glowing screens, would not have lasted long in a reality where man-eating carnivores were never far away. To survive, folks actually had to pay careful attention to reality, and behave in an intelligent manner. Imagine that! The people wore clothing of animal hides, and lived in tipis, in an ecosystem of scorching summers and long blast-freezer winters. Powerful storms could race across the plains at astonishing speed. On a pleasantly warm November day, McClintock noticed distant turbulent clouds that were rushing across the plains in his direction. Danger! The temperature sharply dropped, howling winds pounded him, and a whiteout blizzard commenced. He lost all sense of direction, and freezing to death was a strong possibility. He managed to return to camp. The storm lasted ten days.McClintock wrote, “The Blackfeet subsisted mainly upon buffalo meat, when it could be secured. They also used sarvis berries, wild cherries, buffalo berries and vegetables such as camas, wild turnips, wild onions, wild potatoes, bitter root, and wild rhubarb. They secured wild ducks and geese by striking them over the head with long sticks. Beaver tails were considered a great delicacy.”A vegetarian would soon starve on the plains. The Blackfeet survived by killing and eating their animal relatives. When natives died, their corpses were returned to the circle of life. The dead were placed upon scaffolds built in trees, called death lodges. The Blackfeet did not arrogantly interrupt the circle dance of life with buried caskets or cremation.McClintock was amazed by how well the Blackfeet lived without thrashing their ecosystem. Whites did amazing things with science and industry, but the Blackfeet were superior in terms of their personal integrity. In no Blackfoot community could you find the “depravity, misery, and consuming vice, which involve multitudes in the industrial centers of all the large cities of Christendom.” By thriving in a lifestyle with few wants, they did not deteriorate into infantile consumers. The last chapter in the book has pissed off many reviewers. The preceding thirty-eight chapters did not provide, in any way, a flattering impression of settler society. In 1910, respect for savages was politically incorrect, and publishers were not fond of risky projects. The Blackfeet were hopelessly screwed. Whites were here to stay. Happy endings sold more books. So, the story concludes with a jarring shift. McClintock praised the integrity of the Blackfoot people, and was proud of their heroic advance toward Christian civilization. “The industrious are rapidly becoming self-supporting. Some of them live in well-made and comfortable houses, and own ranches, with large herds of cattle and horses. They wear white men’s clothes, purchased from the trading stores, own high priced wagons and buggies and make use of modern farming implements.” Hooray!Anyway, the book provides readers with a wonderful peephole into a way of life that was not insane. Children were raised in a land that was wild, free, and thriving — grizzly bears, not teddy bears. The good power (Great Spirit) was everywhere, in everything — mountains, plains, winds, waters, trees, birds, and animals. Everyone was on the same cultural channel, free from the friction of diversity and wealth inequality. They grew up in coherent communities where it was rare to see a stranger.McClintock’s book described how a healthy culture disintegrated into incoherence over the course of just one generation. Beliefs got us into this mess, not genes. I’m very optimistic that the coming decades of resource depletion, climate change, and the collapse of our economic system will provide a miraculous cure for consumer fever. Survival will require paying careful attention to reality, and behaving in an intelligent manner. Radical change in one generation is not totally impossible when the time is ripe. Think positive!

Great book on Indian life by one who lived with them! If you like this book, you will want to read these 99-cent books by J.W. Schultz:1. The War Trail Fort (1921) (Linked Table of Contents)2. In the Great Apache Forest (1920)3 Blackfeet Tales of Glacier National Park (1916) (Linked Table Contents)4 My Life as an Indian: The Story of a Red Woman and a White Man in the Lodges of the Blackfeet (1907)5 The Quest of the Fish-Dog Skin (1913)6 Lone Bull's Mistake: A Lodge Pole Chief Story (1918)7 Apauk, Caller of Buffalo (1916)8 The Dreadful River Cave: Chief Black Elk's Story (1920)9 On the Warpath10 The Trail of the Spanish Horse (1922)

The Old North Trail: Life, Legends and Religon of the Blackfeet Indians by Walter McClintock. I know a few of my extended family will like this book.Walter McClintock took an interest in the Blackfeet around the turn of the 20th century. Through diligents and honesty he became aquainted with a tribe, that historically, had no love lost for the 'white man' since Lewis & Clarke. He eventually was adopted into one tribe of the Blackfoot Nation. Over time he gained enough goodwill from the leaders of various tribes to gain an in depth knowledge of their old life style, religion and culture. For me it was an interesting read about a people I've respected for a long time, the First Americans.Written around the turn of the century the author became fluent enough in their language to phonically use some of the tribal names. He mixes those, liberally, with English translations, so you may find it a bit perplexing to read. His discriptions of every day life are fascinating, as well as his discriptions of their Sun Dance and living quarters. (Having built and lived in a Flat Head lodge I found his descripitions accurate to what I have learned over the years.)Near the end of the book the narative becomes sad, for me. He describes how the old ones are no longer revered and their way of life disappearing, especially their religon. (for me, there are very telling parallels to what is happening today). As a person who started reading about our plains First Americans in the early 1970's I was hesitant to put the book aside. It increased my respect for those peoples of the Great Plains, before the 'White Man'. Their culture, if emulated, would have greatly enhanced our society. Alas, like much of today's society, the animostiy towards them overwhelmed the 'White Man's' heart and mind, creating a chasim which still exist today

Chock full of interesting information, very informative as to the Blackfeet culture, highly descriptive of personalities, but not very exciting, so if that's your main criterion, you'll likely be disappointed. If, however, interesting, informative, culture-sensitve, well written description of beautiful scenery and fascinating characters appeals, you're gonna like it!

A must read for anyone interested in the history of this country, and the Native American culture. This book is so well-written and filled with first-hand stories and adventures that I was sorry to have completed reading it! The author lived with, and delved into the culture of his Indian brethren - fortunately for us. Nowhere else will you 'experience' the spiritual and everyday life of the great first Americans.

“A tour de force - Kristin brings Precision Medicine into focus with clear and practical commentary. Personalizing Precision Medicine is exactly what healthcare establishment needs now - how to make it real and cost effective.” – Mara Aspinall, President and CEO, Health Catalysts, Co-Founder, Arizona State University School of Biomedical Diagnostics “As a surgeon, I find the importance of precision surgery to be obvious, but describing precision medicine has been a challenge – until now! Kristin explains it all, from the basic science to compelling, personal stories that make the science come to life. It helps us examine precision medicine from all angles and helps us as physicians explain it comprehensively to others.” – Tenley Albright, Director of the MIT Collaborative Initiatives, former surgeon, and World and Olympic Champion figure skater“As a young patient with breast cancer, it was overwhelming to research every aspect of my care to make sure it was personalized for me. This book, Personalizing Precision Medicine, should be one of the very first tools to educate people like me, and those professionals who supported me. The facts, mixed with personal stories from all around the world, were something I wish I’d had when I was first diagnosed.” – Liz Lord, Breast cancer slayer, former US diplomat and owner of ArlVa Homes LLC

This book is the future of medicine! It's a must read for scientists, business leaders in Medicine, and even the general public wanting to know that they have options when it comes to treatment. Well-written, accessible, and full of examples.

This is a superb read on the current state and future potential of precision medicine. The book strikes a number of important and impressive balances between qualitative insights and quantitative analysis; global perspective and country-by-country detail/differentiation; along with hard evidence and personal anecdotes. In addition, it is one of the first works to succinctly address the often opaque U.S. regulatory and reimbursement framework of this rapidly evolving market. A terrific accomplishment and a must-have for anyone in or entering the healthcare industry.

Extremely well written. Relatable and very interesting. Pothier does an excellent job all around - highly recommend this very important book to EVERYONE!

This is an excellent read! Kristin does an outstanding job at presenting the complexity of the material in a way for anyone interested in understanding precision medicine. This should be the first read for anyone interested in understanding and navigating the precision medicine world.

As a cancer patient with multiple myeloma I found this book very informative. The process for how and why medications and other interventions are selected is explained with an optimistic view of the future of patient care.

Excellent book. Very informative and full of great examples. I highly recommend reading this book especially if you want an edge on the latest information from an expert with a ton of experience. It's a very fun read too!

Readable summary of the latest developments in precision medicine. I found the chapters on science / disease better and more interesting than the country/region chapters

A thoroughly researched, comprehensive look at the Precision Health landscape, short enough to read on a cross-country flight. Has enough science to keep subject matter specialists engaged, without losing the general business crowd. Loved the international perspective and inclusion of some of Kristin's personal stories. Equipped me with interesting dinner conversation material, and great data to appease the skeptics. A must read for Life Sciences professionals at all levels.
